Desperately need a job

Heya!
Well following on from my work experience I got a saturday job at Boots, and I've been kept on since then... they're normally looking for reliable lads (hardworking ones!!) for places like the Photo lab and putting stock out. The old ladies absolutely love having a chap about (as do the customers) and provided you're a hardworker and aren't going to let anyone down... then I'm sure you'll be okay....
Been racking my brain for things my friends did at your age:
PotWasher / Glass collectors at the local pubs and restaurants (I wouldn't go down the route of the mainstream pubs... they will want you over 18 I imagine..local 'old man' type pubs are a better bet)
Sales Assistant: Supermarkets, shops etc.... Try the independent traders for a better chance...
Friends of your parents: Do they have any friends with their own businesses who need:
~Letters / Mailouts stuffed? (This used to keep us occupied in front of the tv just stuffing letters- most boring job in the world but it pays well considering you're just in front of the box
~Delivering letters/Adverts: Local estate agents where I lived were constantly asking us to drop letters in to the local area...
~ Data Entry + Filing?....(filed under the category of "very boring", but reasonably paid!)
~ Care homes/Hospitals are always looking for cleaners etc...
Instead of checking the paper you could also just take a day out and go round the local shops and businesses and ask them if they've got any vacancies? A lot of businesses don't actively advertise for the right person, they just wait for the right person to pop along
Contact your local Town Centre Manager and they should have a list of contacts and businesses with whom you could speak to...(they should have a website as well!)
And also...if you're not allergic and you like them.... dog walking?! (or babysitting... but personally I'm allergic to small children
)
You seem to have taken sensible steps to getting a job sorted... I wish you luck!:T

Well, its official, in my whole half term off i had not found a job. Today i went to a little shop in sainsburys which had advertised two jobs on the net, one Sat, another 15 hours no specific day. I got down there and they tell me its just one job for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I was fuming, it is so frustrating not being able to find vacancies
Anyway, my mum (who had taken me down in the car) wanted to go to look at clothes so while she was browsing i went to Morrisons next door, guess what, there recruiting and had Saturday/Sunday vacancies.
Going to hand in the application form asap, if they invite me to interview and i get the job when do you think i will be starting. (i really need money)0 -
:TWell done - a good example of if at first you don't suceed - try, try again.
They'll probably offer you the job 'subject to references', so be sure you choose referees who will send their references immediately Morrison's ask for them. Perhaps one of them might be your school? Tell them you can start immediately and lots of luck. Let us know how you get on.0 -
Thanks, i have put one reference as my teacher at school and another as a professional friend of the family.0

Here's what my daughter is planning. It requires an initial investment though.
She is at uni so is surrounded by lovely young ladies. She is going to invest £295 on an intensive nail extension course.
She will be able to charge £20-25 for an hours work with a £1 outlay for each client.
Fingers crossed - she does the course next weekSilence is more musical than any song0 -
Dont think beauty related courses are my scene.
Now if it was fixing up peoples bikes when they crack their fairings (like most student do :rotfl: ) i would defo want to do it.
EDIT: Forgot to say good look with your daughters business0 -
hi could you tell me what age a child has to be before he goes on this course to be a ref and where do i go to find out about it as my son would love a p/time job like this thankyoulisle wrote:My youngest, also Mike, earns his extra money as a referee for junior teams on a saturday & sunday morning. He went on a short course and has qualified and gets £10 - £15 per game. In the summer there are always tournaments going on and he can get upto £50 for the weekend.
A word of warning though - some of the parents think that their little treasure is the next David Beckham and every game is the world cup final, and they can get carried away with their criticism of the ref.
There's always a bit of babysitting as well.0 -
