Well, all I can suggest is perseverance: keep your eyes peeled as well for any adverts you see. Ask any of your mates with jobs to keep an eye out for other vacancies where they work. And maybe start small: paper rounds? My 16 yo does the free paper, gets anything from £5 - £15 for that, depending on how many leaflets there are to put in it, and on Sunday mornings he does one for the local paper shop and gets £5. If you have a local paper which can be delivered in the evening, they might also have paper boys.
Also how old are you? At 15 some jobs aren't open to you, but at 16 you can work in a cinema, so if there's a local cinema ask there. Some corner shops might not take you until you're 18, depending on what they sell, but worth asking. One day you might just ask on the day they're about to put a postcard up to say they've got a job going!
Getting the local paper on 'jobs' day might also be worth doing, although you may not find that many weekend jobs there.
Finally, if the first thing you have to do is to fill in an application form, then get it checked over for spelling and grammar! There's not a lot wrong with your spelling, from your post, and I expect it's just because you're in 'chat' mode that there's a few things I'd get my red pen to if I found them on an application form. But there's an art to presenting yourself well on application forms, and there's no substitute for experience with that! So an older person looking it over might help - if not your parents then maybe your tutor would help?
Good luck!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Mike, have you tried McDonalds and Pizza Hut? What about paying a personal call at all the city centre shops that have young employees in Bradford and Leeds? You could also try all the big supermarkets - Sainsbury, Asda, etc. I think you might find personally calling on all these places will put you in a better position. Good luck, hopoe it works out for you.0

Thanks for the replys, i am 16.
I have checked the papers but to no avail.
I dont really want a job in anything to do with food (i know i shouldnt be too picky).
Also, anything i write is checked over by my mother who is very precise when it comes to these things, personally i think she is a bit OTT but i go along with it.
Going to try a load of shops on Saturday and throughout my half term next week so wish me luck.0 -
Although you are 16 I think there is still a limit on the number of hours you can work until the week after you finish Year 11. I applied for places when doing my GCSEs and they all told me that wouldn't take me on until I had finished my exams.0

:j Why dont you try your local hospital. I work in health records and they always employ students to work on the clerical banks, ie pulling patients notes, filing, etc. :j0

Don't forget Hotels etc too, and what about something in Care Homes? They're always advertising down my way. :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0

I'd suggest you don't try care homes, you'd have to be criminal records bureau checked which still takes ages, you have no experience, you are too young, and you'd find the work harrowing.0

I would wash cars but i cant compete with the £4 car wash down the road which do a proffessional job with top equipment, fast and without leaving the customers driveway a mess.
Thanks anyway.
(just got a call from hollywood bowl and they said they dont take on under 18s)0 -
Hi Mike
My eldest, also called mike, managed to secure a saturday job following his work experience placement, he decided to try and build his communication skills with the general public and approached a local jewellery shop, did his 2 weeks placement and was kept on from there, admittedly it was coming upto xmas, etc. but with valentines round the corner, you never know
might be worth a try - let us know how you get on
good luck0
