smiley wrote::j Why dont you try your local hospital. I work in health records and they always employ students to work on the clerical banks, ie pulling patients notes, filing, etc. :j
Mind if i ask which hospital?0 -
The hospital i work is in the manchester area. I notice its not your area, but I expect most hospitals employ students.0

My eldest, also called mike, managed to secure a saturday job following his work experience placement, he decided to try and build his communication skills with the general public and approached a local jewellery shop, did his 2 weeks placement and was kept on from there, admittedly it was coming upto xmas, etc. but with valentines round the corner, you never know
might be worth a try - let us know how you get on
good luck
I worked very hard at my work experience which was last May and i think that with a few comments from the staff i worked with i could probably get a job.
But the company i worked for ceased trading about 4 months after i finished, it has now reopened as a TJHughes. I think all the staff were kept on though and i think i will probably go in there on Saturday and see someone i did my placement with (hopefully one of the managers i worked with wont have left yet).
I have kept this option till last as it was my least desired job but a job is a job and i am in need of money for CBT training and a scooter.0 -

Can you tell me who i should ask for in the hospital (which department/manager).
Thanks0 -
You'd need to ring the hospital and ask for Personel Dept or Human Resources. They deal with all recruitment for the clerical banks and all other vacancies. Hope you find something. Good luck :j0

Hi,
Just a few suggestions.......
Ask your school careers adviser, the local connexions centre (where he/she works) may keep a list of employers needing students, I know they do that in my area.
Contact whoever runs the ice cream vans locally, from March/April they will be wanting staff for the ice cream vans in the local parks etc. especially weekends.
Milkmen usually like to have help collecting cash a couple of nights a week, ring your local dairies.
Is there a racecourse or anything nearby (or football ground etc) where casual help is required for events? Usually catering, collecting tickets, selling tickets etc. Ring and ask which companies have the contracts. You'll probably find that the companies will need staff at various venues every weekend.
Ask at all the stalls at the local market. Stallholders almost always have extra staff at weekends. I know one lad who starts early on a Saturday morning and helps about 6 stallholders unload and set their stalls up. He makes a full days wage before 10:00am!
Glass collecting at local social clubs - usually employ 14-16 year olds for this job.
Just a few ideas............hope this helps. Good Luck!0 -
yes i agree with smiley local hospital will always have something you can do as a student i used to plate hospital meals at weekends and some weekdays!
there are so many types of jobs in the hospital my husband used to work in the pot wash when he was a student!! loading and unloading pots off the big machine!! ask at personnel and also which agencies they deal with as the hospitals are likely to have agency workers. good luck!
i also made cheque books one summer that was monotinous!! if you did so many you got a daily bonus!! but the amount necessary meant you didnt have time to talk at all!! (putting pages together by hand!! (my husband used to go in at night and sew them on a machine!!)
also husband did police line ups for money (ask at local police station)!
i have also known people to wash up in chinese restaurants so if you have china town nearby it is worth a try!!!
best of luck to all students!!0 -

they seem to have sorted out the system - my CRB check came through in under 3 weeks and that was over christmas - it's nothing like as bad as it was a couple of years ago (thank goodness). here's hoping it lasts!:happyhear0 -
My youngest, also Mike, earns his extra money as a referee for junior teams on a saturday & sunday morning. He went on a short course and has qualified and gets £10 - £15 per game. In the summer there are always tournaments going on and he can get upto £50 for the weekend.
A word of warning though - some of the parents think that their little treasure is the next David Beckham and every game is the world cup final, and they can get carried away with their criticism of the ref.
There's always a bit of babysitting as well.I'm in the £2.00 club! terramundi cracked open Christmas Day £748Started a new one Boxing Day!

When you said TJ Hughes do you mean the one which used to be Sunwin House Coop?? If so, then i used to work there from being about 16-18 in the cafe. It was hard and hot work but the experience was good. They used to take on quite a lot of young people (probably because they can pay them less!). I wouldn't have thought that a change of name would scupper your chances.
Also how about the Coop itself? One of my friends worked in the Queensbury branch while we were at school so i know they take on 16yr olds - as do Asda and Morrisons.0
