Desperately need a job

For interviews, the best advice I was given is to think of as many experiences as you can that cover things like working in teams (perhaps you've done a school project as a group? what went well? what didn't go so well, and why?), changes in your life (how you dealt with them, and again what was good about it, and what was bad, along with how you would do things differently - if so!), experiences of dealing with tricky situations (hard I know seeing as you haven't really had much work experience, but situations such as instead of trying to help an awkward customer, you could talk about how you've solved a problem for a family member for example?).
The biggest thing though is, don't lie. Honesty is always the best policy in an interview, and if you're giving examples and something bad happened in the example that you're giving, mention it and explain WHY it happened, and how you solved it - the interviewers are not looking to catch you out, they're looking for you to show that you can deal with and approach certain situations!
Hope that helps!0 -
Hi
Have you tried Marks & Spencer?? They employ part-time staff provided that you have completed your GCSE's for more details log on to https://www.marksandspencer.com/careers.
It is how I started in the company as a "saturday boy" i am now a Duty Manager.Jimbo0 -
A little update, i was offered an interview at the link and it went great, this was at the beginning of June, the manager rang me back the same day and offered me the job.
The next day i also got a job offer from comet but it was less hours so i rang them and turned down the job, it did take him 2 months to offer me it though.
I have been working at the link for the past few weeks now and i'm doing fine, plus i enjoy the job.
Thanks to everyone who helped me along this long struggle of a jobfinder.0 -
This is an excellent thread.
Two major offers of congratulations to moneysavingme. First, well done on finally getting yourself a job, it may never be the best job you have but at least it is money in your pocket. Second, well done for deciding that finding a job and working hard was the right thing for you to do; there are some people of your age who have no interest in looking for a job in the first place, let along try as hard as you to secure one.
You will go a long way in the future matey. The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics(sic) or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were.
