I'm glad I found this thread. They came knocking on our door this afternoon and I never heard of them before. I know now what to say to them when they come back tomorrow to give me a quote :D

most peeps would like to leave the house to the kids. or at least get the best house sale price, (for the cats home), when they pop their clogs.
thats why a new roof makes more sense.

if you live all alone with no relatives, (and you hate cats), then by all means paint the roof with some very expensive dodgy chemical/paint.
and applied by a very dubious company.
    Get some gorm.
  • Mercia where is that, the Aq's are spreading out like ringworm
  • Hi, Ive just had a sales man knock my door think he wishes he hadn't now, my OH is a Journeyman Roofer and worked world wide, his message to you is dont't do it. It is your FELT that is your water barrier your tiles are there for cosmetic reasons. If your roof is 25 years or older you need to change your felt and lath, not paint your tile a pretty colour! Any roofing queries I'll be happy to help
  • I offer no opinion on the worth of roof coatings except that a neighbour has had his done and it looks like it was painted i.e an artificial look. Some people will like the clean look, but I would not be convinced. I do not believe any paint covering lasts indefinitiely, but similar claims are so often made for wall coverings etc.

My real point is on bigdoozers comment about BS ISO9002. This is NOT a quality assurance for roof tiles as the post implies. The standard is to meet the criteria for a quality assurance system and can apply to many goods or services. Before you think that implies a high standard of product or independent accreditation of the product itself, it does not. It's about consistently meeting the standards you set yourself and for companies, there are many advantages including more streamlined administration. However if your job is to produce snake oil, provided you do that in a systemised and consistent manner, that's a quality system in practice. It is NOT some kind of external accreditation of the longevity, value for money or the criteria by which most people might judge quality. It may or may not extend to the installation and may only cover the the manufacture of the product itself.

The only independent accreditation of products and methods is the BBA who also have a helpful summary of BS EN ISO 9002 and a list roof coverings that have been approved
  • If your roof leaks get a qualified roofer to look at it (not a Painter).
I could re-roof a average semi for just over 2K. Steer clear of gimmicks.

This is the 2nd time I have decided to check a company out on these forums before I commit to a "quotation" aka drawn out hard sell sales presentation, and I'm delighted I did.

I won't be touching these goofs with a bargepole, and I'll be advising my neighbours the same.

    Thanks MSE!:money:

Edit: strange that my post count has been reset - I posted here before, but not for about a year, so before all you forum hoes start hurling accusations around you should bear in mind that post counts clearly get reset after long periods of inactivity - we don't all have the time to hang around here all the time - I have commitments (facebook, linkedin, flickr)! :rotfl:

A few properties in my area have been coated by Aquashield and the finish is most impressive. 3 - 4 years on and still no moss visible. I have now comissioned this company to coat my own roof and will post a review when the job is done.

Likewise pedro. What was your quote for job done? Feel mine was a bit steep but welcome any feedback you have.
