Starting to get worried now. I've sent them numerous e-mails as I was told the cancellation was to be done in writing but have had no response (i've sent the first of about 5 e-mails on Saturday). Today I sent a recorded delivery letter to the cancellation address but was told the address was registered to Briggs Roofing, not Aquashield. And I can't get them on the phone either.

two ways out..... 1) refuse them access to he roof if they arrive, when e-mailing tell them that you no longer have funds to pay for the job and if they complete, you can not pay.
    2) Get the roof coated asap by someone else, for less money, and then they will not bother you again.
DO NOT PANIC, you have your consumer rights, and have cancelled. get hold of

  • I've know just recieved a copy of the credit agreement I made with them. Turns out the agreement isn't through the but through Hitachi Capital. I've already given them a cancellation letter, so will I know have to cancel the credit agreement or will it just be void as it states on the letter I recieved from Hitachi that i'll get sent detailed info on my payments once I am in receipt of the goods.

Surely I can't be charged the credit agreement if I have cancelled the contract with Aquashield or am I wrong?

Don't mean to sound harsh but how did you end up signing for something without knowing which company you were taking finance out with?
From what you say it is Hitachi capital that you should contact to cancel, if you still have time.

Hopefully you are right on this bit as you are not in receipt of the 'goods'.
One good thing, you wont ever sign on the spot again.

Not harsh at all. It was my own stupidity really. I would never usually sign on the spot and haven't before. I just stupidly thought the way it was explained to me was 'you don't pay anything until next June. Then in June, your full payment is due. If you don't make that payment you will be charged monthly'.

I know it's my fault and maybe i'm not world weary but I must've misunderstood the whole situation.

That to me didn't sound like a credit agreement.

Ahh, now I know the type you mean.
I always take these agreements as they are interest free as long as you pay by the date, as you say, then they sting you.
Hope you get out of it ok, sure you will, I thought all this cold calling lark was meant to be outlawed?
    If not it should be.

5 years ago there was only 2-3 decent roof-coaters in the UK. AQUASHIELD HAVE GONE THRU' 000'S OF staff in 4 years (not 12 as they say) and many have branched out to start up themselves. There are now 10-15 so called companies in the north west only, many saying they are 12 years old, one I heard of is not VAT reg'd despite their 12 year claims.
The product is not unique to them (Aquashield) and by the way not Thematex either, Take heed that insulation via roof coating is next to ZERO. The service is sold far too expensive as ALL STAFF are self employed commission only on a square meter price.
You can have one of the other longer established professional companies do it for £20 a meter (less than a cheap carpet or a meter of decent wall tiles), and if done correctly, it will last.
One simple thought: If your existing roof has lasted 50 years, then a new roof will last as long. If you are staying around for 50+ years and your roof is getting tired then have a new roof.if you want a cheaper alternative that will make your roof look new, have it coated and do not listen to the many roofers, and non-experts that 'think' they know better. roof-coaters have been around for 15 years in the UK and 25 years worldwide, this is not a quack 'paint' and if done by 'real' companies... is actually a sound waterproofer and cosmetic treatment

Bob Dyson.... where are you now?

I rather stupidly signed up with this mob to do my roof but after speaking to a roofer, who told me he could probably do a new roof for roughly the same price, I sent them an e-mail (yesterday) to cancel the job.
Lo and behold, Aquashield guy turns up today to do a pre-job health and safety inspection on the roof. ??
When I tell him that I have e-mailed the company to cancel, he says "You couldn't have cos the e-mail is broke". Aye Right ! So I point out that if the e-mail could not be delivered, I would have received a notification of non-delivery. Cue much blustering about the company moving office premises and e-mail addresses changing. Tells me I'll need to write to the company, as well as Hitachi Finance." No problem" says I, "but you note now that I told you I'm cancelling and you are not inspecting my roof". Aquashield man then asks why I cancelled, I give him my reasons and he tries to talk to me like I'm a 4 year old. "But your roof is porous.. tiles are past their sell-by date (better not eat them then)... moss leads to collapse". All total crap of course. Sent him on his way.
Don't think Aquashield are happy but such is life.
  • hi im a roofer of 9 years i would have to say a new roof would be loads better due to the fact they dont renew the felt or the batton ,if a roof is 20 years the felt and possible the batton would most likly be no good and the specs would be out of date ie the batton size would be to small im not writing this to keep myself in work cause sadly due to lack of work i have applyed for a job with aquashield and to be fair they do what they say they do but the problems could still lie under the tiles witch no new coating is ever going to fix trust me peeps have a new roof the times are defo in your favor as us roofers are cheaper than ever but try and get a recomended roofer as there is lots of cowboys in my trade.
hope this was helpfull and wish me luck
