I got my card today with a £500 credit limit.:D

The only reason I applied for it is, we're going on holiday soon and although we've saved more spending money that we'll need (hopefully!), I'm a wee bit nervous incase anything happens while we're away, so liked the idea of a 'safety net' so to speak.

I'll start using it now for everyday spending and paying it off in full by direct debit to try and sort my credit rating out.

Please be aware that they have a 7 transaction limit per day but don't bother to actually tell you, or contact you when you are getting close.

We discovered this the hard way when trying to pay for a meal (the 8th transaction of the day) on a Saturday night with my parents and the card was declined. It was the only card we had taken out with us, and mum ended up having to pay for her own birthday meal as there were no Vanquis lines open to talk to anybody about it.

The worst part was, I couldn't reimburse me mum with a credit card and couldn't bear to the embarassment of admitting I had no money and she would have to wait a week for payday so took out a payday loan (which was paid in full when due) :(

I'm currently in the process of clearing my Vanquis card and intend to close it down as soon as possible.

Wow really? I had no idea, I swear I've used this in the pub before now, paying for each round on my card (Maybe I'm not that big a drinker, I can't remember!)
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully I won't use it that often, it's really just a back up for going on holiday (I don't expect to use it there at all, unless there's some kind of emergency and we've used the money we're taking and all the money in our bank accounts) and then I'll use it for shopping and stuff afterwards, just to try and build my credit rating up.

I'm sure your mum would have understood if you'd told her you didn't have any money and it would have saved you getting a payday loan.:(

I love reading this thread, is like vanquis only exist to better credit scores and to be cancelled on MSE.

Anyway onto the point, I've had my card for about 18 months now and admittedly after a few credit limit increases to 1750 started carrying a balance and missed one payment because I forgot to click the confirm button.

They do seem hellbent on selling me some crap because I keep missing calls from them every few weeks or so, turned out one day i called up to change address and found out I had a gold account but didn't get a letter or a new card at the same time. More recently they upped me to £2250 and immediately I started to tear chunks out of the balance (now at £850 when these payments clear) in order to reduce the limit and finally start properly using the CC my bank gave me (how I don't know...) What's strange is that I've always had a 29.9% APR with vanquis but i thought they started ripping people ff at 39.9?

Is that Aquis or Vanquis? I'm asking because the APR and limits you quote are more pertaining to Aquis than Vanquis.

In my case Vanquis was the first credit account I got when I started to rebuild credit so yes it is primarily used for that purpose. But there are those including myself who still stick with Vanquis even though they can now get or already have a prime card. That's probably a good testimonial for Vanquis.

In my case if got steady limit increases from £250 to £1,750 which automatically resulted in a Gold card and that's where limit increases stopped.

My paperwork is definitely Vanquis, my card however is just black/navy with a star on it. I do remember when applying i think it was for Aqua or Luma but then Vanquis turned up.

Is it advisable to pay more than my statement balance this month? I made some purchases at the weekend and I'd like to try and clear them before my statement next month.
Wins so far - Revlon Lip Butter, Teapigs Matcha tea, Johnsons Face Care Gentle Exfoliating Wash:j

That's an Aquis card. They're still Vanquis cards, just under a different name. You still pay vanquis and contact vanquis etc.

You'd be surprised how random it is, I had an Aquis card and got it at 59.9% APR.

I had the same problem with a Halifax application. I was offered 24.9% APR which I refused because my Aqua card will be that same APR in 5 months. Probably due to a settled default due to be removed next month on its 6th anniversary.
