  • Quick update to my thread regarding getting accepted for both Capital One and Vanquis. Both where applied for before Xmas and both cards have arrived today. The pins for both came last week.

Set up my online account access for both, easy to do....and also a painless activation of the cards by telephone.

Used Vanquis to pay a couple of bills that were due, both went through fine. Used Capital One to pay a smaller bill as it has a lower limit - went through the Mastercard Securecode thing, and payment completed smoothly.

Both cards will be paid in full every month - but a quick question. I will probably use up the credit limit mid month fairly regularly, and so will be making interim payments to bring my available credit back to the full amount - will this have any positive or adverse effect on limit increases? Anyone with experience of this?

One strange thing - the security code for both cards is identical! 1000/1 chance of that happening! How bizarre......

As far as I know (and if wrong someone will correct me) the only effects on your credit rating come as a result of the card supplier reporting to the credit reference agency which they only do once a month. So if you clear our balance each month that will have a positive effect but using and then clearing again in the month won't have any direct effect on your credit rating through the CRA's.

I have had my Vanquis card for 6 months now, cleared in full every month and still not had an increase, despite them telling me I was under review for an increase after my 3rd statement. I am now increasing my spending to around 70% of the available credit each month, while still paying it in full and will see if that prompts an increase. It is really bizarre how they decide who gets and who doesn't get a limit increase, I am more curious than ever now to see what I have to do to get the increase. Aqua doubled my limit after the 3rd statement (paid in full each month), curiously though it shows on my credit file as a Halifax card, which is my bank, so maybe that has something to do with it.

May be Simon, that may be the reason. They tend to check internal and external systems, to decide.

When me and my husband met had in pin numbers the same bar one digit from different bank.

And painless is not the word for Vanquis. Much better then the phone however expect a lot of crashing!

My PIN arrived about a week before the card - I was worrying like you but please don't worry - it'll turn up..
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.
