I have found Vanquis to be surprisingly helpful and think they have played a part in my credit rating which seems to have improved! I applied for my card in October, received it a few weeks later with a £250 limit. I use the card regularly, pay the balance in full every month and they have helped with an issue over unauthorised debits from my account. I still have the same limit, doesnt bother me one bit, but today I walked into my local Virgin Media store and was given a Nokia N8 on contract. I really believe in taking small steps in terms of building your credit rating especially when you have as I have been unreliable to creditors in the past!!! Maybe next year I can get a proper credit card!!!!0

The 20-11-81 details are still in the literature they send with the card (well up to three weeks ago when I got mine anyway) - hence my question because on their website it shows the other sort code and account number.
I've sent a 'test' tenner using the details from their website but my bank doesn't do FP so it'll be Monday I guess. Will let you all know how I get on..Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
I was accepted for the Granite card on 13th of June. I haven't received the card or pin yet and they won't speak to me about the account because i don't know the password.. They never asked me for a password! This sounds dodgy as hell.. could someone have intercepted and activated my card?
They're sending me a password change form but i KNOW I never set one up.0 -

TBH I think they'd have told you if your card had been used already. My card took a couple of weeks and although it was Vanquis in my case, I think they're different in name only... they told me it was going to take one week but when I rang to chase they then said could be up to 21 working days...Never argue with an idiot. I'll just have to play the waiting game then.. These clowns really don't like doing anything in a hurry do they?0 -

It's weird, they certainly can be slow but as an example of why I use the term weird, there's another guy on here who applied exactly one week before me and got his card in just seven days.
I know what you're thinking and feeling - for me the Vanquis card was my first card since coming out of an IVA earlier this year and despite the mess I got into, I did miss having a credit card - not for building up debt which I never want to do again, but just the convenience. I started travelling a lot with work a couple of years ago and my experience when trying to check in to a hotel with a Visa Debit card fell into either:-
1) No thanks - or -
2) You'll have to pay in full now and wont be able to charge anything to the room
Either way, I might as well have turned up at reception in a cold sweat with lumps on my face and a black cross around my neck as I certainly felt like a leopar
Then, don't talk to me about car hire. Hertz was "you must be joking" down to the more moderate Avis "yes, we take Visa Debit, but we'll pre auth £500 plus rental costs".
Apart from anything else, I regularly had £500-£1000 out of my bank account before my company repaid my expenses claim.
So I know why you are keen for that card to arrive - and it will - sit tight...Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
I just got accepted but I have a problem...
It is advertised as 39.9% APR variable, but my actual accepted interest rate is 59.8%!!!! What's that all about?
I plan on only using it for small purcahses, and as said, paying in full, so I know I won't be paying it BUT I didn't think an extra 20% is what they would put on to start with? Also will this come down with time?0 -

These are their new details, they changed them a few months ago now. Didn't bother informing anyone. I just suddenly discovered that I couldn't pay them . They have marvellous communication skills....Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???0
