  • Has anyone ever actually been declined by Vanquis?

    No!

I have the worst credit history in the world and applied three weeks ago, without much hope, for a Granite card...

...and they rang me today, recited the longest script in the world, tried to sell me that crap insurance, then accepted me!

Got my decline email from them earlier, loads of searches and cards probably doesn't help though... interesting that I've always been referred with them, and then declined, so it must be something they manually see that they don't like - otherwise I'd get outright declines...?

All vanquis applications are referred - they do the searches and scoring manually by default.

Cashplus? And no retry for me.. can't be bothered with Vanquis now, got Natpest, Cap1, Aqua and Sygma anyway, they are fine until I get Barclaycard/Halifax
  • Lol, I was never able to get vanquis, had capital one, a store card and catalogue, mobile phone etc btu vanquis turned me down 4 times in 5 years, until 6 months ago........
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p

Nope, was more to see if I could get it rather than because I need it, especially as they're supposed to be ok with increases (unlike Cap1). Guess the answer to whether I can get it is going to be left at no! :p
  • I got turned down by JD Williams (or rather they insist I pay in advance instead of having a credit account) - however Studio have just accepted me so more green Os for me...

Just be careful the rate at which you accumulate new accounts.

Having MORE green 0's on your credit file isn't always a good thing.

Remember that if your goal is to get prime, that a prime lender's main concern is how stable the applicant is and how good they are at maintaining the status quo.

This means that one or two very old accounts run well will stand you in much better stead than half a dozen new accounts run well, even if the new accounts have very sensible balances and limits.

You're best off just having one bank account, one mobile phone, one credit card and one catalogue account, and just maintaining those so that once the most recently opened account is 12+ months old you will look very sensible, stable, and good at maintaining the status quo to any prospective prime lender.

Well done on the acceptance though :o
