Hi all- after a bit of help.

I used my card on New Years day and after a few purchases it was declined... had a text the day before stating I had £1000 credit, I'd only spent £50 ish that day, and the transaction I was refused on was £30 - nothing excessive... Couldn't get hold of Vanquis as they were closed til 4th jan so cancelled it, worried that it had been swiped and cloned.

4th Jan I phone up to find out what was going on... they tell me that I'd used my card 5 times that day and company policy is that is classed as excessive spending

Each time I use it 5 times in one day, I have to phone up and get it reset so that I can continue spending - how ridiculous is that??? I could understand if I was trying to spend £200 a time, but the highest transactions was £30, most were under £10!

I use the card a lot and pay off in full each month as I'm trying to build my credit rating up, but I really feel that this is just a way for them to make money out of me by making me phone a premium rate number to get it reset so I can use the card.

I've just had my new card through and checked the T&C's but it doesn't specifically state anything about 5 uses and it's blocked. Just that they can restrict it to protect the security of the account.

I don't believe I'll get anywhere by complaining as when I queried it on 4th they said it was company policy... Anyone else had this sort of restriction or any ideas how to get around it (apart from not using the card more than 5 times lol)?

I can't move as I'm struggling to get credit other places and don't want to risk a decline on my credit rating, so changing cards isn't an option.

    Any help/ideas appreciated:beer:

Has anyone actually breathing ever been turned down for a Vanquis card?

I was initially turned down for my Vanquis, waited 6 months then reapplied and was accepted. Tho due to a repossessed house and a couple of defaults/CCJ's on my account I was surprised to be accepted second time round.

I got a call from Vanquis last time I applied, and it ended up being a decline letter a few days after :\

I reapplied and got a 7-10 days message, got a call earlier, just after 9, that I didn't answer (lecture). Should I call back or will they just call me again later?

Normally the criteria is the applicant having a pulse and not to be six feet under :rotfl:

I applied on the 27th November and the card arrived on 10th January- ok I took into account the weather and the Christmas and New Year holidays but that is pushing it a bit.
I didn't get the phone call until 22nd December and it still took weeks.
Call them to see where you are up to

I only applied Thursday night. I called back the number yesterday, answered security and they only asked if I had a landline and then what my household income was. Last time (when I was rejected post-call) they asked for direct debit details etc. I'm assuming as soon as I said income it came up rejected. She just said thank you, that is all the information we need from you today, you will receive a letter in 7-10 days. I'd be amazed if I got it

Hmm does sound a bit unlikely :( My call told me that I'd been accepted, and offered me a cash advance!
