Then don't have a go at the sub-primers....Everyone makes mistakes, either through their own actions or things out of their control.0

completely agree, ive just been accepted for prime cards but will be keeping my vanquis, like you i always make sure its paid off, well i keep a balance of circa 50 on it, ive ran it up to 1100 before but never for long
if used sensibly the vanquis card is a great addition to a credit file, well certainly in my case it has been
That is contradicting yourself.
You state 'just been accepted' for mainstream cards' and 'keeping your Vanquis'.......this obviously means that the Vanquis card was the only one you could get at the time.
People are under this misconception that a sub prime card is the way out of sub prime lending when it isn't that easy. Sub Prime cards will show on a report aswell.I have some mainstream cards. I have 3 CCJ's and 3 defaults between 5 and 6 years old, which does limit who will accept me.
My borrowing has hit around 80% of available credit, so any new cards or credit limit increases help to bring that down to under 50%, which will help when applying for the best mainstream deals in 12 months time.
I have a small limit with Vanquis currently, but combined with my other 6 credit cards, it's not so bad. In a years time when I have a perfect credit file and get accepted for cards with £10K limits, I'll gladly drop Vanquis, but until then it all helps.
No offence intended but you sound like every lenders worst nightmare!
- 3 CCJ's
- 6 Defaults
- 80% of available credit (not sure how you arrived at that figure)
and 6 credit cards
You salary cannot be that high else you would not require 6 credit cards, and your management of money must be poor (judging by your above admissions) and the amount percentage of credit you say you have already consumed.
With all of that taken into account, i would be astonished if you were offered another CC with a £100 limit let alone £10K.0 -
dont quite see what your point is,
I have no problem in acknowledging the fact it was probably the only one that would accept me at the time (2008), however if you read my other posts i make no secret of the fact that i have this strange loyalty to vanquis as it was the first company to give me a chance on the road to recovery
if I did not have the vanquis card then Im quite sure tesco and flybe would not have accepted me some 2 years later. I run the account in a strict manner so i see no problem with keeping it on along with the newer 2 cards, the more green 0's the better in my opinion from just 5 or 6 credit accounts and I wouldnt hold it against anyone else choosing to do so whether it is seen as a contradiction or not0 -

Not at all - maybe my post was just a little unclear. I've only had my Vanquis card for 3 months. Prior to that Barclaycard accepted me for a new card with £2000 limit. Since then FlyBe accepted me with a £1500 limit. No offence intended but you sound like every lenders worst nightmare!

I disagree I am a nightmare. All 3 CCJ's and 3 defaults have been satisfied for 5 years. They drop off within 12 months, so then I will have an immaculate credit file.
My salary is double the national average, so no problem there. However due to historic debt, it takes time to clear this. I do not have a particularly large available debt - £25K, and the 80% figure reflects a bank account I am repaying - £3000 balance currently, but no credit limit, so it bumps up the used, but not the available.
My credit card limits total £11K - 6 cards, but most emtpy or paid off in full each month. Not that high at all for my earnings. By the end of this year, I expect my debt to be 50% that of my available credit.
I therefore completely disagree that I'm anybody's worst nightmare. I haven't missed a payment in 5 years, I have a well paid job for 6 years, on electoral role and in current house for 3 years. Other than the adverse info, it's all rosey! But I appreciate your concern.0 -

It's safe to say you know a lot less than you think you do.
One default was from Capital One. They have since opened a new account for me! The other 2 are Amex and HBOS. I can live without borrowing from either, although I doubt they have an internal black list.
I don't need to explain my history to you, but I'm certainly not a nightmare with lenders! My CCJ's are nothing to do with borrowings.
But it's all ok! 355 days before there is no record on my credit file of the CCJ's or defaults.0 -

Sounds like some people commenting on your history really need to look at the "Improving your credit score" thread.
One of the key principles of credit scoring is that recent history is much more important than old history.
As an example, a couple of missed payments three to six months ago amidst an otherwise flawless credit file is more likely to cause a decline than two defaults from five years ago amidst an otherwise flawless credit file.
FYI in Summer 2008 my mother was approved for two RBS cards at 15.9% APR totalling £5,200 credit limits despite having an outstanding default to Barclays for £15,000 from five years prior.
Recent history > Old history. SimplesCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

you pair need to do your homework a bit more i applied to mbna again the other week knowing full well i knocked them in 1999,i explained to him ive got declined, but also explained i defaulted in 1999 was this the reason, and then i said well this should not matter it was like 11 years ago,he replied not 100% sure how other companies work but with us once you have an adverse credit agreement it dont matter how long ago they still wont give you credit:money:0
