Not true. I have applied for and received more competitive cards both before and after getting my Vanquis card.

I pay the card off in full each month. It makes no difference whether the APR is 2% or 200%, as either way I would pay the same.

I'm not desperate, but I wanted to increase my available credit - not to use, but to make my credit file stronger. Vanquis increase credit limits fairly regularly, so it's ok for me.

Some Vanquis customers may be desperate. I'm not!

completely agree, ive just been accepted for prime cards but will be keeping my vanquis, like you i always make sure its paid off, well i keep a balance of circa 50 on it, ive ran it up to 1100 before but never for long

if used sensibly the vanquis card is a great addition to a credit file, well certainly in my case it has been

i see what you mean in that sense, but i know for a fact and in my case most people would surely swap your cards with that terrible credit limit, and go for an 18% cards from one of the big boy companies with better 100% much better credit limits, you can be with vanquis for 2 years say but your credit limit will always stay under £2500,go with one of the bigger lot your available credit will be so much higher,i would swap my vanquis for a prime lender any day of the week..:o

it makes sense what you are saying star, i have a problem with sentimental value though

i feel a bit of strange loyalty towards vanquis though for giving me a chance in the frst place to rebuild my history, clearly when you look at the cold hard figures involved with vanquis i am probably certifiably insane though :rotfl:

i am now at the flybe and tesco credit card stage on my path to perfect credit but will always have a soft spot for my vanquis lol its kinda like having a pet scorpion, treat it properly or you will be stung lol

i just got accepted for them last week, i did all the damage to my credit file in 2003-2004 so most have all started to drop off now, looking at my reports the very last default i have will drop off in sept this year,

its been hard but ive went down the vanquis, shop direct route since 2008, a very risky game to play but i have kept my discipline and flooded my reports with 100% green 0's and out of the four accounts i have i owe

    vanquis 50/1500
    very 37/1200
marshall ward 105/950, i want rid of this one but i had to buy a hoover, i went for a dyson as i have went through 5 hoovers in 4 years, i got a great deal on it (3*35 payments left interest free)
    clydesdale overdraft 0/1000

it hasnt been at all easy but i feel if i keep all these and the two new cards going I will get a mortgage at some point, thats the dream anyway

i ain't having that TFD what you say about available credit,i'm with vanquis and they told me the most credit they would give someone is £2500,so work it out for yourself if you want more available credit on your report and you said you can get mainstream cards, well for starters most mainstream cards will start you off around £3000 thats before you have even had any history with them,2,i'm not saying your desperate mate but your available credit from vanquis will only hit £2500..which to most lenders that is not alot of available credit, and i think if someone like mbna phoned you up and said hi tfd we have a card for you,you would say thanks and throw vanquis card away...thankyou

I have some mainstream cards. I have 3 CCJ's and 3 defaults between 5 and 6 years old, which does limit who will accept me.

My borrowing has hit around 80% of available credit, so any new cards or credit limit increases help to bring that down to under 50%, which will help when applying for the best mainstream deals in 12 months time.

I have a small limit with Vanquis currently, but combined with my other 6 credit cards, it's not so bad. In a years time when I have a perfect credit file and get accepted for cards with £10K limits, I'll gladly drop Vanquis, but until then it all helps.

I use it just once or twice a month... and only when I haven't got to hand it over! For everything else I use a less p1key looking card. Snobby I know :(

    god bless internet shopping

i will admit though that i try and be as discreet as possible when getting it out of my wallet and putting it in a chip and pin,

although that said I hope 'joe public'' hasnt caught on to my gold 'disguise' card being vanquis issue :rotfl:

ach fek it, nobody should care what you hand over for payment
