I have had my Vanquis declined several times because the store chip n pin hasn't been working, so there definitely is an element of truth to this.
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear
  • you vanquis card holders talking about i want bigger credit limits on the card, you are mad stick to your limit which they first give you and if they give you a higher limit ask for that to be lowered, the vanquis credit card is not like any other decent credit card, its not a proper credit card it is a credit building card,to basically give you credit history on your credit file so when applying for further credit they can see you are responsible....just spend a tiny bit on this card each month for a year get your greens on your report then rip the card up call them up and say thanks but see you later i"m off to a proper card...

Will you stop posting this message all over the place.

We are aware of how the Vanquis Card works, having a higher credit limit but only spending a little (then hopefully paying it off at the end of the month) is the right way to go. The higher the credit limit the more attractive you become to the more mainstream cards.

There is no harm in having a high cc limit on vanquis as long as you are prepared to follow the golden rules.

Both myself and my OH have Vanquis cards and have built up a credit limit of £2500 each over the last year or so. Quite recently we have both been accepted for more mainstream cards at a much lower APR but with good credit limits. I for one am putting this down to using the Vanquis card wisely and building up a good credit rapport.
  • Rushai think the reason is i'm trying to get the message through cause there is people on here giving alot of advice to people about getting credit cards and that, all you have to do is look at the sort of cards they have at the moment to think to yourself why am i asking someone who has got crap credit cards who cant get a decent prime card, who the bank dont even want to know questions about finance..its like going to burger king and asking for a pizza

eastanglian, but this does affect a lot of people on the site - either through bankrupcy, illness or unemployment and then getting behind on payments. This card, even with the extortionate APR n it (which we were ALL aware of when we applied) is a good way to build a credit rating. Calling it a credit building card is a misnomer as in some people's cases they still act like idiots and get into debt again.

We are giving advice about the cards which may suit someone with no or a bad credit history, so your comments are invalid and you do make yourself sound like an idiot.
(Oh, and btw, my bank want to know me - they would the amount of money that pops in 3 times a year, stays in there and also where my savings a/c and ISA are kept)

But no-one in their right mind WANTS to have a Vanquis card.
Only the desperate that can get nothing else have them.

Your quite right Woody, I didn't want a Vanquis card, but at the time its all I could get.

Now a year down the line im being accepted for more mainstream cards, having used the Vanquis card wisely.

When you can't get anything else then a Vanquis is a good stepping stone, apply, spend, and pay back and you'll soon start to look more attractive to other lenders. At this point you shouldn't be needing or using the Vanquis card anyway. Ok, you could spend and pay back at the end of the month to avoid interest and thats a good reason to keep the Vanquis but other than that once you've got yourself out of a hole via using Vanquis you will reap the rewards.

Then don't have a go at the sub-primers....Everyone makes mistakes, either through their own actions or things out of their control.
