I have just spoken to Vanquis again, and they have confirmed this card CANNOT be used in a machine that is not chip and pin. The girl said that if it is a swip and sign machine that is no good. If anyone has any info which contradicts this I would love to hear it as Vanquis are ticking me off at the moment and I didnt want to have to leave the equivalent of $400 on my debit card for the car hire swipe.
I have used my Vanquis card in a swipe and sign machine.0 -
I've had my Vanquis for over 7 months now and can't fault them. They gave me a card when many others wouldn't and are, in my opinion helping me repair my credit.
I use my card wisely and pay off in full most months, my choice.
How people operate their card's is their choice and up to them.
The rate is high, but many of us have got in a mess in the past and have learnt our lesson and are just grateful for Vanquis giving us a chance.
You seem to have alot of hate for them eastanglian1 - if you don't like them, don't have one of their cards and why put so much effort in to pulling them down?!
If I didn't like a company I wouldnt spend so much time going on about it .... bit of a waste of time really0 -
GRRR Not happy... Statement 10 produced yesterday and STILL no Credit Limit increase. What am I supposed to have done wrong? Always spend up to the limit, always pay well over the minimum (in full for the last four months), never incurred charges on the account...
Stupid poo poo heads
Hmmm, I went from £250 to £2,500 and a Gold card in a really short space of time. I used to spend a lot and then pay a lot each month - as much as £500 sometimes.0 -
viktory that is 1 of the funniest things ive heard VANQUIS doing a gold card lol, what next the job centre giving away platinum ub40's:rotfl:.i diden't know they done gold cards is this there way of thinking lets give them gold cards to make them stay longer ONLY HAVING A LAUGH WITH YOU:beer:0

Well it looks like I am going to be the guinea pig then. I must be the first person who has a Vanquis card and is going to try it in a swipe machine
My husband actually rang Vanquis last night as he also has a card with them, and he wanted authorisation to use it in America. They told him the same thing they told me, and again tried to insist that the US uses chip and pin.
Makes me wonder if the staff there actually know anything...Please God, help me stop spending!0 -
Bit no-one in their right WANTS to have a Vanquis card.
Only the desperate that can get nothing else have them.
Not true. I have applied for and received more competitive cards both before and after getting my Vanquis card.
I pay the card off in full each month. It makes no difference whether the APR is 2% or 200%, as either way I would pay the same.
I'm not desperate, but I wanted to increase my available credit - not to use, but to make my credit file stronger. Vanquis increase credit limits fairly regularly, so it's ok for me.
Some Vanquis customers may be desperate. I'm not!0 -
i ain't having that TFD what you say about available credit,i'm with vanquis and they told me the most credit they would give someone is £2500,so work it out for yourself if you want more available credit on your report and you said you can get mainstream cards, well for starters most mainstream cards will start you off around £3000 thats before you have even had any history with them,2,i'm not saying your desperate mate but your available credit from vanquis will only hit £2500..which to most lenders that is not alot of available credit, and i think if someone like mbna phoned you up and said hi tfd we have a card for you,you would say thanks and throw vanquis card away...thankyou0
