Because otherwise you'll have trailing interest from previous months. It won't affect you if you pay in full every month before the statement date.
But if you don't and carry a balance over from month 1 to month 2, month 2's statement will have interest on that balance. But if you settle in full by month 2's payment date, you will still have interest to pay in month 3 - which is the interest charged between month 2's statement being issued and you making the payment. Settle in full again after month 3's statement, and there's no interest to roll on.
Effectively, you always need to settle a CC bill in full and on time for two months to make sure the third is interest free. Pay in full and on time every month - no trailing interest, transactions interest-free.
Hope that makes sense (or someone can explain it a bit better!).
Ok i have a question - in October i got my first statement and paid the balance in full, in November i got my 2nd statement and paid the balance of the statement in full as well as purchases i'd made up to the date i paid making my balance 0.00, i got my December statement yesterday and i've been charged purchase interest? Why?A home is not a home ..... without a dog0 -

You might be waiting a while. Got the same message. I applied last Monday. Heard nothing back yet, checked Experian this morning, and as of yet, nothing showing from Vanquish in terms of a search. :-(0 -

I did try and phone yesterday (how desperate am i) but got a message saying that office had been closed due to unforseen circumstances so i'm guessing the weather has affected the staff levels so some applications might take longer to be processed
