Cheeky bu99ers at Vanquis! Got my statement today and there's £1.00 minimum finance charge on it. Phoned to ask what it was and was told 'oh that's the charge we make when your interest is less than £1'. All well and good but I pay the statement in full each month, 'sorry - that charge shouldn't be there - I'll get it taken off'.

How many accounts each month do they put this £1 charge on in error but it gets paid because nobody queries it?

    well spotted :D:D:D

I have had the same charge on three occasions and like yourself always pay in full by direct debit. They told me if a transaction is applied to your account on the statement date (this transaction will appear on next statement) then this minimum charge is (wrongly) applied.
  • I'm trying to rebuild my credit rating and have applied for and received a Vanquis card, however I'm a little confused as, although I have the card (and have used it), I have never sent any ID or signed a credit agreement. I've had the card for just under a month so waiting for first statement. Should I be worried about the lack of ID thing?

They can check your ID electronically (via the Electoral Roll) and you sign the agreement online by ticking a box or by typing in your name to act as a signature.

Ah that explains it. The person I spoke to gave the same line (its when interest is less than £1) and kept suggesting my purchases in Walmart could have been cash withdrawals. Eventually refered it to another department and I never got a call back about it.

I guess what someone said before is right - I haven't bothered to chase it up and actually completely forgot about it until I read this. This charge must be collected wrongfully from quite a lot of people.
  • I have now used my card twice (damn cars!!) my question is:

My card has only been active for about a week, when does your first statement normally arrive?
  • I got my card on the 3rd of August, then received my 1st statement 15 days later, which surprised me.

This may be a good thing tho, as I'm awaiting statement no 4 and hopefully get an increase in my limit.

If you have been good and kept under your limit and made your payments on time!
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.
