    option 2

enter last 4 digits of account number

    enter six digit security number

There is some info given on left to spend etc, then press 0 to speak to someone who can tell you your balance.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

the six digit security number is normally your date of birth in the following format:

    ddmmyy

I check my balance with Vanquis several times a week by calling 0800 781 6314.

Option 2, last four digits of card number (if calling from landline registered with the account), and DOB as DDMMYY

Tells you your balance after letting you hear a brief snippet of some rip-off cover band Abba... ;)

actually will work fine off a mobile as well, first time you call it will ask for the full 16 digits from the card, it then seems to store the CLI and only asks for the last 4 digits on subsequent calls.

Ahhh so that's why it gets all frustrated when my other half checks his balance from the landline then the next time I call it doesn't recognise the last 4 digits... hehe

Quite a clever system... for Vanquis :p

What on earth is a MINIMUM FINANCE CHARGE????

I do not pay interest as I pay in full each month. I use the card each month. Are they charging me because they are not charging me??? (And I use the free 0800 for account balances!)

This is the first charge since I have had the card, so 6 months??? (Charged £1)

Have they changed the T&Cs that I didn't read??????? (Serve me right!)

Are you sure you paid it in full and on time? That's a charge where any interest payable is less than £1 and they round it up.

Even if you're a penny short by mistake, you'll find a minimum finance charge of £1.

Yep; its definitely paid in full each month. Well, in full by direct debit with what the statement says I owe. Some months I pay extra mid-month before the statement and I have never been charged a penny in interest.

I'd be dialling the 0800 number if I were you then!

Just FYI, here's the relevant paragraph from the T&Cs:

3.6 If in any statement period you incur interest (excluding ROP Charges) and that interest is less than £1, a minimum finance charge of £1 will be added to your Account in place of that interest which will be waived.

If you've got a full amount direct debit, the only way interest would be payable is on a cash withdrawal, I suppose.

I'll ring them this afternoon then.

I don't withdraw cash on it either.
