I would not expect my customers to contact PayPal as they bought the goods from me, I would deal with any problems.
If they are not happy with my service they may contact their card provider and request a charge-back or section 75 claim.

Therein is one of my main beefs with Paypal

You cannot request a Section 75 claim through your Card Provider because they say that you have simply deposited the funds with Paypal and not made the purchase on the card. They then refer you back to Paypal at £1.50 per minute.

I think I will have to clarify this with PayPal, not saying you are wrong Nick however I don't like the idea of my existing/potential customers being detered or in fear of issues.
The products I sell are not of high value (£100 max), if a customer genuinly did not get what they paid for in all honesty I would just refund them and log a postage claim with the carrier at my end, that way I am keeping my customer happy and not wasting their time.

    Hi Proliant,

You are clearly an honourable seller who would deal with any issues in a fair manner, unfortunately not all sellers are going to have the same ethics.

It is my understanding that you do not benefit from Section 75 protection when purchasing on eBay via Paypal.

As I have said, I have no personal experience on this so I am going on what have read on here and elsewhere, so I would be interested in anything substantial that you can find.

I think aswell speaking with Paypal it may be worth speaking with a Card Provider and asking if they would cover such transactions under Section 75.

Slight confusion here maybe, I don't sell on eBay as of yet, I run my own website ecommerce system which uses the PayPal API (Advanced Programming Interface) which talks to the PayPal Gateway, once payment has been authorised my back office system gets an IPN (Instant Payment Notification) to say it has been authorised.

Got my card and pin (yay!) a week or so ago. This is my first credit card so i'm a bit wary about using it expecially as the customer service advisor said "for the first month your direct debit won't work so you will have to arrange another payment method".

I'm scared to miss a payment on the first month... Did she mean calendar month or payment month? Never had a credit card statement, and even more wary now due to the royal mail strikes... as a statement could take a while to get to me.

The direct debit has been setup for the full amount and i can view it on my online account.

Someone put my mind to rest :o

You can call Vanquis' automated robot on 0800 7816314 any time you want, to check your balance and find out if any payment is due.

You don't always have to wait until a statement arrives before making a payment. You can make a payment anytime you wish using their automated service and it will tell you if any payment is due.

    Thanks Elky!

Say you purchased something on monday and payed it off tuesday would they frown on that? If my spending carried on like that for a year, would I still be eligible for limit increases?

Not at all. I purchase things on my credit cards all the time and pay it off a few days later.

As for the limit increases.. it is important not to miss any payments or go over your credit limit, doing that could jepordise any increases Vanquis may plan to give you. Manage your account well and hopefully there will be many increases in the future.
