Firstly this is only a forum so you should never feel offended or worthless by anothers views since your views are as valid as anyone elses.

Hi- I'm just popping in for a minute or so!! Whilst I appreciate the sentiment behind the above quote from AB, it is difficult for someone living with depression to not take things personally. It can be all too easy to feel slighted/ignored/got at by forum posts, e-mails, friends, everything and anything. I talk from experience. I have been diagnosed as soft bi-polar (which I am currently monitoring, as feel that my symptoms closely mimic PMDD). During depressive states, I am hyper sensitive to other peoples thoughts, feelings, words and actions/non action. So, in a medium where emotion cannot easily be conveyed - especially when we do not personally know the poster - it is all to easy to read it in a different way than that intended. And sometime, it hurts. Whether the hurt was intended or not, it still hurts.

We all have our own way of coping. I, for one, have spoken with my GP, and ditched the meds (for now) as I feel able to manage with diet, exercise, and the support of good friends. When I feel myself slipping, they get me out of the house and into the air. But, that's not to say that meds don't have their uses - I would go back in a heartbeat if I needed to, or if the Doc thought it wise....

And, FYI, I'm having a good day!! I may lurk for a little while, and pop in every now and again!!

Phew, lengthy first post and intro! Hope you are all having a good day,and keeping the Black Dog at bay.

    Hi all :)

can we please remember that this thread is here for people suffering with depression to support each other
it's not for debating treatments or for professionals who treat depression to give advice

    thankyou :)

AB, you appear to have misquoted me - by adding the water/rest cure - try it for chronic period pain - it ain't gonna work!! :D

This is not the relevant space for a meds/placebo debate - I know that the meds worked for me, because I tried them. I appreciate that you haven't and therefore need to rely on reports and statistics. We are not, however, statistics!!

Suffice it to say, they worked for me - and for others, they have (quite literally) been life savers. I understand that you work in the mental health field, and have valid contributions to make, but please understand that people are on here for support and understanding - not to defend themselves or their choice of managing their illness.

    Nuff said methinks!!:D

    Anyone for :coffee: ??

absolute bounder - have you personally ever been diagnosed with depression?

Have you ever been prescribed anti-depressants?

Have you ever felt that you were so completely and utterly hopeless?

Have you ever felt so alone, and had no one to talk to and turn to?

Have you known deep inside that you have good reason to live and carry on, but cannot shift the feeling of uselessness that goes to your very core?

Have you ever wondered how you got to feeling like this in the first place and then felt even worse because all the people around you keep telling you to 'cheer up' and just think positive, then you beat yourself up cos your clearly not normal as you dont seem to be able to do just that......and youve no idea why????

    I think not.

I dont think you have any real idea of what anyone is going through or do I think you are any sort of professional. Heaven help any one who really feels like this that ever comes to you for advice, help or support as you seem incapable of any of the above.

My GP has researched and had discussion about positive thinking and cognitive therapies etc, but i believe your lack of tact and what can only be preceived as utter disdain for everyone else who cant just 'be positive' is nothing short of appauling.

Only my opinion of course, but you said you welcomed them all.

This used to be a good place to come and get how I was feeling off my chest to people who understand and know what it feels like.

Due to the arrogance and, as Jo said, lack of tact, of a poster on here, I now longer feel safe to pour out my heart on here. I am very depressed tonight, and even more so knowing that this means of support is not open to me at the moment. I hope that I will feel able to return at some point.

As I said in an earlier deleted post, I wish everybody on here well, especially BB, Ssssss, Anni and Katie and Tiff

I hope that AB, you will think very carefully about what you post in future and that you won't use us as some kind of science experiment. I hope you dont' talk to your patients in the same way that you post.

Sssss please don't take it to heart. I think the board guide has to try to keep the peace, so is deleting everything said during that row, whether it was argumentative or not. It must be a tough decision to make. It's not directed against you personally, we all had posts deleted. Take care sweetheart.
Thanks Jo, I will PM you if I need to talk. Am trying to calm down now, feel awful about what's been happening on here today.
Am looking forward to the Apprentice later!

Rose, if people quote posts as has happened in this thread then all have to go, I personally have reported some to abuse. Please don't you take it personally and do keep posting.

Off to watch The Apprentice too :D
