The truth about Ryanair

  • We're getting nowhere SG. Irrespective of what you may see as a passenger, the cabin crew are not "primarily there to serve drinks". I can also assure you that 100% of their time is not taken up pushing a trolley - more like 30%. You don't see the crew briefing or the pre-boarding security checks, then there's the boarding itself, the pre-departure preparations, the passenger safety briefing and the pre-takeoff checks. And that's all before the aircraft has even got off the ground.

On a short flight (eg London-Manchester), the cabin service only lasts 15 minutes despite the crew being on duty for nearly 2 hours. On a long flight (eg London-New York) the service lasts about 90 minutes for a 6/7 hour flight. The main reason the cabin crew are in the cabin is to monitor safety and security - the service of food/drinks is a very good way to keep everyone in their seats rather than playing with door handles and smoking in toilets.

Their primary focus is SAFETY and if the company cuts corners it shouldn't be allowed to operate
  • re wise investor, on the cabin crew saftey issues, i belive especially with easyjet and to a lesser degree ryanair...checking for seat belts, window blinds, bags in emergency exits etc is very thorough indeed, i had the feeling on about 10 trips with BA that these concerns were not being observed quite so rigourously and a sort of customer comonsense was expected and barking at passengers about minor things was not the done thing.....i accept this a personal view and might not be the "truth"

as for atc issues...with all the state of the art technology available..an air traffic controller is still a very stressfull job , as documentry programmes have shown

my own experience is with RAF controllers who have been so stressed controlling planes they have been unable to speak, and shaking with nerves

a mid air crash in my opinion in the uk is inevitable, and it doesent matter who the carrier is when that happens
  • Thank you RYAN AIR for making it affordable for me to have travelled as much as I have.[/QUOTE]

I support that comment, I have travelled to places I would never have been able to before.
I like the fact that Ryanair goes to regional airports and it has helped those local economies.
Listening to some people in the media travel is only for the Middle Classes and was much better when us workers knew our place; ie Clacton on sea!
    Waddle you do eh?
  • i swore i'd never fly ryanair after i had read and seen interviews with their CEO. on the point of service and safety i believe that the no-frills carriers are forced to have the amount of flight attendants that they do by law ...whichever one it was didn't see the need for so many.

If you don't want to travel on Ryanair or Easyjet,(or GB Airways because this is the cheap arm of BA) then don't. I am quite happy to in the full knowledge of their abilities and weaknesness. I have flown in a lot of countries around the world and I have never felt less than safe in Ryanair/Easyjet/BMI, etc. Their qaulity to me is very good. Whilst I do not like all their chargeing policies and customer services skills, that is not connected to their safety. If you don't like them fine don't buy a ticket but please don't make them out to be the Satan of airways. They are undoubtedly amongst the best and safest in the world.

You got it WiseInvestor - Last Ryanair flight I took the Stewards (eses) were Spanish. I couldnt understand the fast garbled instructions for safety and I'm pretty sharp with languages and accents. God help you in the event of danger and they are excited - you would never understand the instructions and they would be unable to control a panic.

As the point was made earlier - cheap shouldn't mean shoddy. Think that if they charged £10 more - you could actually get some service and benefits like support if the flight is delayed or cancelled

Ryanair fly SPANISH people to the UK regularly, infact their 35 million passengers are not all English speaking. Their website is in 20 different languages including Catalan as well as Spanish.
    Any flight I've been on
(and Ive done a few at at a penny or as much as 99p +tax's and charges---we are talking 28GBP RETURN )
the "live" instructions have been to suit the majority of passengers BUT thet have ALWAYS followed on with RECORDED instructions for other passengers.
Id suggest ,you are the type that goes abroad and complains they all dont speak ENGLISH
Go to Blackpool next time, 2 pints and a packet of crisps will be understood

    On the safety side-
Heathrow Gatwick all 3 of Newyorks and many other airports are at full capacity of landings and take off's. Thats why that big thing was built the A380.

Finding your life jacket (no matter what language they instruct you in) is easy, leave it where it is no plane has landed at sea with any survivors.

It's not just about communicating with the passengers though; what about communicating with eachother? Imagine an oven fire in the rear galley at 39,000ft, being faught by a Latvian stewardess under supervision of an Italian Purser who then has to inform the Czech Captain and Lituhuanian co-pilot that they've got 12 minutes to live.

Scientific studies have shown that the first reaction in a stressful situation is reversion to Mother tongue, only there's no time here to be mixing words!

VERY few airlines around the world operate with an increasing number of foreign crew. The big airlines can typically afford local employees whilst most of Europe's low-costs operate from countries where labour is cheap. However, we're now finding some airlines drafting hoards of migrants from a vast pool of cheap labour but is the mix really such a good idea?

There's a distinct possibility that the A380 will decrease capacity rather than the other way around. Airbus are current running air trials to check how far other aircraft have to stay behind it to avoid wake turbulence. Early indications show it could be as much as twice the distance behind a 747 in which case the airport can land fewer passengers in the same time. Heathrow can land more aircraft (by day and night) but the local residents won't allow it.

Ever seen an airport built near the sea? What if the aircraft fails to stop on the runway? Landing on water isn't necessarily the end.
