  • funny after me defending ryanair on the forum..i have just returned from santander hell where 4 ryanair planes were hit by lightening, and i was stranded in santander for 26 hours with very little news about what was happening and no help from ryanair

ryanair made no effort to help anyone...including their own check in staff at santander who had no idea what was happening or what to do

but thats what you get from ryanair...they don't kid you they are fairy godmothers

they take your money and you hope for the best

but the saftey of their aircraft was paramount and after several inspections from technical staff they in the end fixed the aircraft

call ryanair what you like..but they wont risk saftey on their planes, and they dont give a damn about customers

talk about angry punters ....but the overwhelming opinion was that these things happen once in a blue moon and i know along with many others who were on that flight..they will use ryanair again because of the value and service you get the rest of the time

My point all along is that if they simply charged a few quid more it could go in some kind of kitty to bail people out in the ( admittedly fairly rare ) event of delays or cancellations. That is what other carriers do but they get pilloried for higher charges.

Sorry to hear about your bad time Ynot - I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

On Wednesday I'm off to Southampton courtesy of BA. Quick check in, free bags and I'm fairly confident they will get me there or compensate me if there is a delay - cost less than £100 return.

    Who is silent gives consent.
  • to be honest i dont want to pay any more for flights, even at £100 BA flight, i have had 5 return trips with ryanair for that

paying what is an "insurance premium" on every flight just in case it goes wrong to me isnt worth it

i think the travelling public are accepting for next to nothing flights they are taking a small risk

in my case im sure BA would have had better customer relations and been helpfull, wether they could have got me home the same day is another matter

if you pay an extra premium for years with BA and they have an act of god problem and they dont get it right on the day-that could be a lot of money wasted in the belief you are getting what you pay for

i dosent get much worse than what i have had to put up with over the last couple of days...but flying again with ryanair i will certainly do
  • Ynot, I'm sorry you had a problem and although you say that it is a rare event , I must admit that I'm not yet convinced about Ryanair's service. Several of the flights that I have previously priced up (Fridays & Sundays at good times) have not been significantly cheaper than with other carriers with which I have a lot more confidence. If I had a 26 hour delay on a weekend break, that would be at least an extra day's leave, which would cost me a lot more than any of the savings in airfare!

That said, if you are able to travel late or early and mid-week, Ryanair's fares are much more attractive and they have helped drive down the cost of flying on the more mainstream airlines. Other low cost carriers such as Easyjet, Air Berline etc. seem to have much more positive feedback than Ryanair, but then Ryanair is likely to get more complaints than others due to volume of its passengers.

That is what low cost flying is all about. 8 years ago The average fare was double what it is now. The fares have been driven down but at a price. 8 years ago, if your ago was tech another aircraft would be flown in to cover it. Putting people in hotels was a matter of course. Food was regular event even on the shortest of flights. These are generally things of the past. 'Low' fares have brought people to aeroplanes that would never normally have considered it but if you need to be somewhere at short notice its a very different story. That's when the old school airlines are often cheaper these days. On short flights the level of service offered on board is just a distraction. It's the unseen issues of maintenance, training, fatigue that should be of concern. That's where Dispatches dropped the ball. The truth is out there. Maybe someone else will go and find it.

as you may have seen i doubt i will ever fly with ryanair.
can i just say what an honourable person you are to come on the forum and relay your santander story. you have defended ryanair with gusto and a lesser person would have 'conveniently' forgotten this trip .
    most refreshing
    thanks

i did defend ryanair and still do....im sure many regular travellers with ryanair are aware things arent right with the company, from employees to customers none of them matter to o leary

but you still get a good service from them with great value almost all of the time, someone else said ryanair have brought air travel to people who would otherwise not have flown ...thats me

i know their faults and appreciate their good points

i have now had 2 bad trips out of countless flights...one easyjet and one ryanair, ryanair did nothing but make things worse, easyjet cared enough to lay on a hotel with free food for 2 nights

but still ryanair got me home the next day, easyjet if i had taken their offer of an hotel would have got me home 2 days later

lets face it ryanair one way fare of £10 is incredible with now promises of further cuts in prices...thats why i defend with gusto

my gripe with ryanair is how they call the customers to the boarding gates sometimes 25 mins before the arriving plane has landed..that means anything up to an hour standing in line...thats naughty
  • We've had so many great experiences with Easyjet, and now always try and fly with them if we can. However, we flew to Venice with Ryanair, and as the previous poster's experience of standing at the gate, we had to stand up at the gate for 45 minutes, during which point one lady in front of me fainted, and then when they finally let us through there was no 'crowd control' so instead it was fittest to the front, and some people really pushed through, an old lady was knocked over and I got elbowed in the boob!! Oh, and because they have no seat allocation my husband and I were forced to sit apart (some might see this as a bonus ;):) ).

Seeing as how summer is nearly upon us I thought I'd bring this back to life - let's see how many bouquets and raspberries the various airlines get over the next few months.

Last month - Ryanair East Mids to Wroclaw. Great big BOUQUET - flights on time, brand new aircraft, loads of room, great new destination. (Got told off though for bringing own bottle of wine on board :D )
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
