Quickly ...
360 - Better games range / catalogue, cheaper, more established online play but £40 a year
PS3 - Blu-Ray player, free online play, more expensive
I have both - dont' play games on the PS3 though, so if you're not bothered about blu-ray or don't have a HD TV then get a 360 !0 -
PS3s upscaling capablilites are pretty good, better then most cheapie dvd players.
Id agree with music though, if its just for games, you may as well get the 360.
I have a PS3 personally, but then I use it for watching hidef films as well as gaming etc:idea:0 -
You can get a 1 year xbox live subscription for about £300

360 all the way!! I have one downstairs for the kids and one in my bedroom with a wireless adaptor.
I can stream all my music, videos etc from my PC. DVD quality is still great if you have a decent telly too.
Online gaming is absolutely superb and well worth the £40 a year.
I would go for this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/993950 -
As stated above:
Xbox 360 - much better games range, many games now in the "platinum" ccategory and can be had for a tenner, console is much cheaper, online play is awesome (I just bought 13 month live sub for £29.99)
PS3 - blu-ray player, wireless built in, free online (not as good as live or as many users I believe), not as many good games, console a lot more expensive.
All depends what you want it for. If it's for games, then 360.0 -
PS3, i'd say. It is more powerful, will be more future proof as it uses the next generation format, bluray. Its supposed to be slightly harder to code for, but developers are getting the hang of it now.
There are more games for the Xbox360 due to the fact that its a PC in a box and it is easy to develop/port games between it and the PC. However the PS3 is hardly short of games and unless you intend to play for hours and hours per day, you won't run out.
Add up the cost of the 360, a blu ray player, and a few years of online fees and the PS3 begins to look better value.
Also take into account that microsoft immediately made sure no further games were released for the first Xbox as soon as the 360 was on sale. This is unforgivable in my opinion. By comparison, you can still get games for the PS2.
Furthermore, the initial cost of the console compared to what you will spend in the long term on games is insignificant really.
Oh, and the ps3 is quiet. 360 sounds like a turbine. and it overheats and blows up. (last point a believe is fixed now!)0 -
The games range argument is starting to be less and less valid now as some great games are coming out for the PS3 now, they are catching up fast.
The PS3 is the better console, end of. But for online gaming, it depends what all your friends have got!Current mortgage remaining £167,200 as at 3rd March 09:eek:0 -

Are you forgetting the previous Sony Consoles??!! Why would you want to still use the old xbox anyway? Its called progression and every Console manuafacturer is gulity of it, you cant just single out Microsoft??!!
Online gaming is the dogs nads on 360, far far better than the PS3. The infrastructure is already in place and will only get better and better.
As for games, do I need to go on?
The 360 overheats and blows up??!! There has been the red ring of death problem fair enough but I dont know of any actually blowing up "Kaboom!!!!"
Any faulty consoles are now replaced or repaired at no cost no questions asked with a new 3 year guarantee:T0 -
ive been through the same for a few months,i was dead set for getting the ps3,until i played on one and realised it was no different to the xbox 360,unless your a nerd an can spot nano sized differences.
i got the xbox and im very happy, ive got a few game s of ebay really cheap, and 9/10 when i speak to other people they have one,so i can borrow and play against online, which is good.
the ps3 is more powerfull, but by how much is confusing, the cell processors is more powerfull, but i belive the GPU in the xbox is..its all mines better than yours crap, which as i say you wont see a difference
so i would spend less and go for the xbox, when ps3 hits £199 sell xbox and go for that.
i dont find the xbox loud, its mainly the cd drive i think, but installing the games on the hdd and you cant hear it.
the rrod is under 3 year warrenty with microsoft so why worry.
just enjoy gaming and good luck with which you go forDony worry,be happy...0 -
Firstly - the PS3 may be more expensive on outlay than the Xbox, but if you're going to subscribe to xbox live, than the PS3 would actually be cheaper over the life of the console. Plus if you're buying a blu-ray player then there's hardly any difference in outlay costs.
There are some games on the PS3 that are exclusive, and there's others on the Xbox. I'd say it comes down to a)What your friends have for online play, and b)What titles you prefer on either title, c)whether you want blu ray capabilities.
Personally I bought mine half for the blu-ray player, and half for the occassional game. I cant see myself playing too much online as I have a PC for online gaming which is probably superior to both. I'd say xbox live is probably the biggest plus for xbox 360 in all honesty whilst blu ray is the big plus for PS3, so it depends what you can see yourself utilising more.matched betting: £879.63
