We flew Liverpool to Palma last week with Ryan Air. I didnt find any advantage to checking in on line if you have luggage to check in. You still have to queue with everyone else who is checking in. If your bags are less than 10 kgs and under a certain size, then you can take them on to the plane, so you dont have to queue.
Also, I'm not being funny but do you know where Prestwick Airport is? I dont know how they call it Glasgow Prestwick as it is miles away.
Yeh I know where Prestwick is, I dont live that far away from it.:p But thanks anyway. Im beginning to worry about my trip now as Im flying into London from Germany and only have about 1 1/2 hours to get back through security etc. I just hope Im going to have enough time.[/COLOR] Starting the new year in a good way cooking baby sharkeybabe no2:j:j0 -
I’ve just seen the press coverage (and checked Ryan Air’s press release) stating that you’ll now be charged £5/€5 each way for online check-in, so £10/€10 for a return flight.
I think I’m missing something; checking in isn’t optional, as without checking in and without a boarding pass, you can’t get through security, and so you can’t get on the plane. I thought Ryanair had to offer a ‘free option’ otherwise it will affect the price they can advertise flights at?
Regardless, I’m still annoyed – my partner and I spend on average €2,500 on Ryan Air each year (he lives in Ireland, I live in the UK) and over the course of our relationship, we’ve spent nearly €8,300 on Ryan Air; their service gets worse (if at all it was possible), and the charges go up.. We can only see each other on weekends so the £1 flights never apply to us. **mumbles grumpily to herself**0 -
allow plenty of time as the queues for security checks are still pretty horrendous. With Jet2 it said if you had checked in online then you could leave it until 45 minutes before the flight, we left an hour and only just made the flight. I think 1 1/2 hours would have made it more relaxed.
That depends which airport you fly from, not which airline you go on! Manchester's queues are always horrendous, for example, but I've arrived at Liverpool many times just half an hour before my flight (I don't take checked luggage) and have always made it through with time to spare. It helps that I'm not at all bothered about wasting time in the shops, etc.0 -

The charge for online check-in only applies if you're taking hold baggage. So it's actually cheaper, as previously you had to use airport check-in if you wanted to take hold baggage.Qualifying passengers who are travelling with just cabin baggage can check-in online free of charge, The online check-in fee applies to all passengers who are travelling with checked baggage. You're right, but the check-in fee doesn't apply to 'headline' or 'promotional' fares, so they get away with it. This is made clear on Ryanair's website and press releases (link).0 -

According to the Ryanair apologist on the radio the charge will reduce ticket costs :rolleyes:0 -
Help, I'm so confused. I'm flying from Stansted to Santander tomorrow. Initially (on April 9th) I booked the flights only (for me and a friend). At the weekend I added 1 checked bag for myself only (£20).
What do I do about checking in? I don't remember selecting any check-in options when booking - I can't remember what the booking process looked like. Presumably the default is online check-in? So, can I now check us both in online for free. Can I still check-in online if I have a hold bag - is there a fee for this? I just went to the online check-in section and I have the option to check us both in. Doesn't seem to be requesting a fee.
Also what do I do with the bag when I get to Stansted? Help!0 -
I have travelled with Ryan Air many times but always just had handluggage. Travelling next week with hold luggage. Paid everything that I had too, but can I still check in online and bag drop or do I have to use the self-service/check- in desk?SallyD0

Exactly, and I think we will see a variety of promo fares.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

If you booked 2 days ago then you can check-in on-line even if you have checked luggage.
In either case you will not pay more than you have already paid0
