I don't know if this has been mentionned already in this thread.
Last month on the Thursday before France were due to play Ireland in Dublin in the 6 nations rugby, Nice airport closed for an hour due to high winds.
A Ryanair, BA and Easyjet flight were diverted to Marseille.
The BA and Easyjet flight flew to Nice when they reopened.
The Ryanair passengers were told to find their own way to Nice.
That plane was due to take 200 French rugby supporters from Nice to Dublin.
They had booked hotels, match tickets and the flight.
The aircraft took off and returned to Dublin from Marseilles empty, leaving the supporters stranded in Nice.
None of them were able to get another flight to Dublin, and missed the match.
Sorry if this has been already posted.0 -

Hmm.. Interesting.
"The web check-in fee of £5/€5 per person, per flight will apply to all new bookings (except promotional fares) from 1st May 2009."0 -
Also:
from 1st May 2009. In order to dissuade passengers from using airport check-in desks, the fee for airport check-in will double to £20/€20 per person/per flight at the time of booking.0 -

Yes, I noticed this too. Does it refer only to those with baggage (as the previous mention of £5/€5 did, or does it refer to everyone? And if the latter, does that mean it stops being optional? It's conveniently vague if you ask me...0 -

So, he'll stop paying the airports to provide him airport check-in facilities, but he'll continue to charge us the fee, all the same. Good one, O'Leary. Our £5/€5 therefore becomes pure profit.
*Oh, except for fares which Ryanair deem to be "promotional". Ambiguous.0 -
I think it'll be a compulsory £5/€5 charge for checking in - simple as that*.
*Oh, except for fares which Ryanair deem to be "promotional". Ambiguous.
The "promotional" fares are the least ambiguous part of it - they're anything that comes up with 'special offer' rather than 'regular fare' in the selection list. The reason they're exempt is that in Europe airlines are not allowed to advertise 'headline fares' (either in the media or on their homepage) unless they include all non-optional charges. The reason it's worrying, however, is that, despite frequent criticism on here and elsewhere, all Ryanair's fees are currently completely optional, and if this announcement means what we think it does it's a step backwards, and one that imo will only lead to trouble. I have said many times that I have no problem paying Ryanair's fees when I choose to use those particular services, but I would resent paying to do something for which there is no free option. If, of course, that actually is what this means.0 -
Looks like promotional fares will gain in popularity to avoid the £5 check in charge.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Well yes, that's true. If we've understood it correctly, it means a compulsory £5/€5 charge for checking in online, each way. Something which has, up until now, been free.
What's ambitious about "promotional fares" is, Ryanair label their fares as, "Regular Fare", "NO TAXES", "NO FEES", and I'm sure I've seen "FREE FLIGHTS" as a description before now.
So, with the obvious exception of "Regular Fare", which of the above constitutes a "promotional fare"?0 -
Steve_xx, in reply to your post which has now been deleted.. you were reading Phase 1:
"Customers choosing web check-in and travelling with only carry-on bags will continue to enjoy this service free of charge."
But have a look at Phase 2:
"From 1st May 2009 all new bookings will be required to use web check-in, and the use of traditional airport check-in desks will be phased out over the summer months. The web check-in fee of £5/€5 per person, per flight will apply to all new bookings (except promotional fares) from 1st May 2009."0
