Hope someone can help me. I need to send a SAR letter to Egg, Woolwich, Cheltenham & Gloucester, Halifax, Barclaycard and HSBC as these are all from 2000-2008. They have all been paid and cancelled.

Some of these were in my maiden name and some were after I was married and changed my name

Do I have to send £10 to each of them?

Also, I have account numbers for a mortgage with Woolwich but not ppi account number, i believe that is different. The SAR letter template has Account Number on it. Shall I just delete it and provide previous name and addresses to help to trace me.

I already feel out of my depth just by reading all the stuff on here. I don't want to screw it all up before I have even begun.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: My current mortgage is with Bank of Scotland, so if I wrote to them would that cover my old Halifax mortgage and loan as well as my St Andrews Life assurance?
  • I am unable to locate the Account Number needed to send the letter. Will it be pointless sending the letter without the Account Number?

I also have the same issue, i assume if i send off the SARS with no account number then they will reply stating i have not provided them with enough information to locate my details, but i am unable to provide them with any more.

What is the best course of action?

  • Hi,

I hope someone can help? After reading all the success stories on here for reclaiming PPI's I decided to give it a go.

I had a flexible loan with Cahoot from around 2000 to 2009 when it was paid off and closed down.

I think I had ppi on this but am not sure so I sent a SAR letter to Cahoot using the template provided on this thread (thank you very much :)) on 21/5/2012 and included a cheque for £10. I sent it "signed for" with Royal Mail and have a tracking number showing it was signed for. My cheque was cashed on 13/06/2012 and I heard nothing from them. I sent a chasing letter (another template from here!) on 09/07/2012 and still heard nothing so phoned them. After being transferred from pillar to post I eventually spoke to someone who said all she could do was log a complaint. My complaint was logged and after 7 working days I received a letter from the complaints department with all the wrong information in about my complaint. I phoned again and was told to ring another number I rung the other number and was told no they could not help ring back on the original number that I was given! I have got nowhere so far and I still have not received a response to my original SAR of 21/05/2012. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do next?

I had no details for my First Plus loan. I sent the SAR and included all my current and past addresses (back to when I took out the loan) as well as a rough time frame for them to focus their search.

Got all relevant information back no problem. Part of my SAR was for them to confirm the account number for the loan to start my claim, which they kindly did...

If you have the account number, give them a call and put the complaint in, as this was finished in 09 they should still have the details, ask them if they can find the account and if there was PPI on.
Have you tried Santander to see if they can find you? may be worth a try.
  • If I have the acount number for a credit card what do I actually need to do to start a PPI claim. Do I still need to do an SAR first ?

    You need valid and verifiable complaint reasons;

  • After submitting a sar request to RBS/Lombard Direct, they responded on IDEM headed paper and told me to contact them as RBS had no information on me (very puzzled as they obtained a decree against me) what action do i take when IDEM cash the cheque and send me a statement i get every couple of months, a blank loan agreement and appendix of credit reference agencies and that is that, nothing else

I now owe the same amount after paying the loan for 8 years as i had the interest added on by the court and now appear to owe their lawyer 2.5k

RBS weren't happy i was paying 20 less a month than they demanded from my debt management agency and took me to court in 2008. I originally took the loan out in 2003 online and they are refusing to review my ppi claim as the FOS ruled they couldn't investigate as RBS had taken me to court.

    Help

If the Financial Ombudsman Service have indeed ruled that your PPI complaint can't be investigated because you have a court judgement linked to that account, I think you need to seek qualified legal advice about what options,if any, are available to you.

Make an appointment with your local Citizens Advice Bureau, perhaps?
