My daughter worked in a Wetherspoons few months. They pay minimum wage, don't pass on tips to staff or allow staff to have any meals there (although initially they had a half price deal). The staff have to put up with all sorts as they don't employ 'bouncers' and it gets very hairy, especially on paydays. They often work until 3 in the morning (it shuts when people go rather than at a set time). Usually the staff are run off their feet: I went in a couple of times midweek early evening and it was incredibly busy with only 3 staff serving (including food).
None of this excuses poor service but may explain why some of the employees aren't that motivated.0 -
I used to work in a Wetherspoon pub and it was the worst job I've ever had!
I was paid £5.52 an hour to scrub floors with scouring pads at the end of the night, bring heavy loads from the cellar, deal with people who may cause fights (during the week) and then I did what it stated in my contract - serve customers.
When I left we were allowed tips but now, it seems, no branch is, certainly not the one I worked in.
The food was hit or miss and it's the same for staff. You never know what kind of portion size you'll get, but the price doesn't reflect it.0 -
The fact that it is next to a Sainburys is of no consequence and if you do write I would not mention that0

Maybe they didn't get a delivery of tomatoes that day because the tomato lorry got stuck in the snow! But even if that is the case it doesn't excuse poor service.0

I think this is much too serious to be writing to their Head Office.
The small claims court seems much more appropriate for compensation.
However, Head Office might be the ideal location to get the staff on minimum pay sacked for laughing.
Burgers without a slice of tomato, just what is the world coming to ?Bad Spellers of the world untie0 -
I have 2 local Wetherspoons and the food and service is far better in one that the other.
The better one is very professionally run, with excellent long term staff, and the management always on site
The other one has a high turnover of staff and I have only seen a manager once.
We go to the first one 3 times a month and the other about 4 times a year0 -

Hello all
WOULD YOU COMPLAIN?
Feel a bit angered by a recent visit regarding food and service. You may think this is all a bit unnecessary, but we feel let down and I think this just gets overlooked all the time, and I don't want to put up with it anymore.
{snip}
Yes you should complain. But as has already been noted, with a meal the time to complain is at the time it happens. I'm really not sure that I would sit there and eat a meal like the one you describe and not say anything at the time.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
Clearly this should be in the 'warnings/rip offs' board, clearly!!! Awful!! I would not stand for this.Kavanne
Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

If you pay weatherspoon prices you get weatherspoon food and service!!! What do you want for under £6.00 Michlin food and A1 service
For gods sake stop moaning.

My cousin worked briefly in a wetherspoons and mentioned that the staff newsletter always wanted to see something like "Fat hamsters" on certain days so that there will be more money in the till. Apparently that was code for "put a big head on the beers". Did you/your daughter ever hear anything about that?
I really don't like that company at all.0
