Thanks for help - I thought i'd be able to just open it online? Obviously not then! Would I be better waiting until I have better history before applying or does is go for external score automatically regardless that i'm aleady using HSBC as my main and only account? :beer:Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

I do this - never take cash out - ever! and have like 12+ DD's and 2 SO's to other HSBC saving accounts.noah271007 wrote: »your salary paid in, and perhaps saving account or even HSBC financial products. My salary is paid in weekly plus a monthly amount equalling same as my salary and I always have credit balance all week upto and including payday.noah271007 wrote: »What decreases the behaviour score is taking cash out of the machine often, cheque/SO/direct debit reversed, constantly overdrawn, not using the account much, account balance down to zero before pay day and so on.
I never miss anything like this, only charge is the £12.95 account fee. I use account at least once every other day - i.e. get my mcdonalds lunch on switch LOL.
I'm kinda wanting to know how long to wait before I get an actual behaviour score of my own..... pointless applying for a credit card with HSBC til my score increases, surely? Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

You got what it takes to get your behaviour score up and up! Just be patience, 4- 6 months will go very quickly and before you know it is there on the screen for you to see. Remember nothing is guaranteed. Just because you run well with your account and did everything in HSBC books doesn't mean you can have an o/d or a credit card. In the current credit crunch climate you would be very fortunate to have a HSBC credit card. Do you have a credit card with another issuer?0 -
I used to work for HSBC and what ShelfStacker said is right the system may have generated a recommended overdraft and the cheque guarantee facility based on credit scoring. However I believe you have to specifically request an overdraft nowadays (to do with responsible lending) as opposed to the bank saying we can offer you an overdraft of £xxx
Because you are a new customer your behaviour score will be blank and one of the first things either a phone operative or presumably Internet Banking checks when you apply for an overdraft is your behaviour score. Because you didn't ask for an overdraft when you opened your account it will take a few months before you are eligible to apply for one.
Hope this clears things up a bit
Disclaimer: I do not know the current lending policies of HSBC and the above is my personal opinion only!0 -
I have been on the phone to my branch, lending and internet banking helpdesk most the day! Seems the issue here is that because I refused the o/d at the time my account was opened, I have to wait for 3 months before reapplying. I kicked off arguing why? Its not like I was rejected, as I was accepted and refused it the offer should stand and not be removed.
They kinda agree and are trying to "apply" a £200 o/d to my account which should sort the screen problem. The reason my screen looks like this is purely because I refused the overdraft. If I never got offered one, for example, then my screen would look the same as everyone elses.
Will update when I know whether the £200 o/d has been "applied" LOLSome say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

Seriously, are HSBC that tough when it comes to giving a credit card? Thought they gave little £500 limits etc...? Or do they see £500 as a risk lolSome say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

They're very tough on pretty much everything at the moment, sadly. Virtually every application for anything that has come into my branch has been declined.0 -

Even current accounts? I just asked my branch today if I could have a 2nd account.... couldnt see it online to apply as sole account holder.

Yep even opening current accounts is quite hard from what i know! HSBC are a bit like Nationwide in this respect, strict on lending and cherry pick applicants. It is not surprising both institutions are not directly affected with the credit crunch as badly as others although HSBC department in USA had incurred HUGH losses from the subprime borrowers - i don't know much about this but maybe SS will know more about this?0 -
