They seem to be, I know someone who has two defaults and got one with a cheque guarantee.

Perhaps SS, it is because of the internal behaviour score, HSBC account run well (salary paid in etc). Cos it is not externally credit checked.
My behaviour score is 39....(cos im on managed loan but thats another story) and i believe in order to have CG card you need to be over 40?
What i do know is true I had HSBC Plus black visa card but no CG!

Well I got the CG Card with my HSBC Plus account and my credit score is 'Bad'. I'm 18 so have had no previous credit history and have 7 searches on my record, yet HSBC still gave me the Plus account with CG Card, so they must be lenient?

I got told there would be no 'behaviour score' until i'd held an account for 6mth - is this not the case then, should I have one already after a few weeks?

This link explains Behaviour Scores from other users on this site..... You're right in that people say you have to have 40-49 to qualify for bank account. However, I was told you don't get a score til after 6mth so its kinda confusing, i.e. how does a new customer to HSBC have a score?

I don't know this for sure, maybe SS will know this, but i THINK they already have an internal behaviour score when you first opened the account but it is a NEUTRAL score...perhaps 50. It take a while to get a proper behaviour score, hence HSBC saying wait for 6 months.
I moved to Lloyds and my internal score with them is 4 from a scale of 1-10. That is almost a neutral score to begin with and if you manage well with account and use it a lot, then the internal behaviour score should improve.
  • No, when you first become a customer your BS is blank. Not zero, not 50, just blank. Effectively neutral (50 isn't neutral - it ranks as about middling, and makes you eligible for at least some lending.)

Thanks for this - so any idea why I was accepted then, with chq card and offer of £200 o/d? Would that be normal or would it mean I was low(ish) risk?

Be good if you could clarify as i'd love to know what HSBC think of me lol.... and how long does it take before the behaviour score updates with a numerical digit(s) for new customers? Would 6-8wks be enough?

Also, do you know can you have 2 accounts with HSBC - tried to apply today but no option for sole account to existing customers....

Apparently behaviour score is updated every month on the 7th (after gross interest is paid if any). SS will know this don't u SS?:D

Updates on the 7th, but interest is paid depending on the day of the month you opened the account, not especially on the 7th.

It just means your credit rating is good enough to justify those facilities.

Not sure. Just give it time.

Should be able to. Phone the "Apply now" no. shown on the website.

In order to improve behaviour score, use card transactions a lot (as this make money for HSBC), D/D and SO set up and NEVER reversed (like bills), your salary paid in, and perhaps saving account or even HSBC financial products. Ensure you credited money into the account more than you debited each month. Maintaining a credit balance helps too. What decreases the behaviour score is taking cash out of the machine often, cheque/SO/direct debit reversed, constantly overdrawn, not using the account much, account balance down to zero before pay day and so on.
