Best and Worst place you have been to?

Best - Another vote for Bryce Canyon, Utah; and an honourable second place for Angkor Wat - breathtaking
Worst - Russia - specifically Moscow, Ekaterinberg and Irkutsk. The Transiberian railway trip itself was fab but the inabitants of these cities were downright unhelpful and tried to rip us off (several times). And it was hideously expensive for crap quality accomodation, atrocious food and service.0 -
Best: Big Sur region, California; Isle of Wight, North Cornwall, Penang
Worst: Malta, Orlando (great theme parks but nothing else appealing whatsoever), Barry Island near Cardiff0 -
Looks like Malta is dropping out of my list of places to visit.Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. - Proust0

We took our family on our 1st abroad trip to Malta last year. We loved it so much we are going again this year to try and fit in all the things we didn't get to do. Malta is underdeveloped and not what most people expect of a foreign holiday destination. Has to be the best place i have been to so far. People are helpful and all speak english. Food is cheap , weather is wonderful and the sea is warm. Looks a bit arabic with all the domes of churches and white buildings.
Worst place ...don't really have one as i do a bit of research beforehand.0 -
I don't get the Malta thing either-never been there but it sounded nice.0

Best......Barcelona and New York City
Worst.....Malta0 -
I thought Malta was all a bit yellowy-beige - few trees, grass or flowers., few beaches (though a couple are very nice), so swimming off rocks and concrete jetties. Generally less nice accommodation than rest of med, though also falling short of the quaintly basic like greek studios.
When I was a travel agent, customers either loved or hated it....in general malta-lovers were over 60 and mainly male (maybe something to do with military history?)
Anyone who's tempted by it ...try it! If you like it enough to be tempted you may love it! Most people who haven't liked it (me included) have picked it for price, late availability or the fact it stays warmer longer than much of the med.0 -
Best place _ Venice, especially when you get away from crowds in St Mark's Square. In fact the only place in Italy we haven't loved is Sorrento, which had British pubs.
Worse - San Francisco it was the last place on a Western Us tour last year and what a let down after LA, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite etc. It was Soooo cold and once you've seen the bridge, has the Alcatrz tour and an expensive cable car ride (one day?) a very ordinary city.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

I believe best or worst places are judged by visitors' good or bad experience in a particular plac, rather than the place itself. Even the worst sh!thole on Earth can be great if you having a good time. And some of the best places, horrible, if you're not.
Get a life and you'll have a good time everywhere.

Best - The South of France, New York, Hong Kong
Worst - Turkey by a million miles. Horrible place (in MHO)
Most over rated - Bahamas and Antigua, specifically Sandals resort in Antigua, in fact all the carribean islands are pretty much the same, seen one, seen them all, with the possible exception of Barbados0
