Worst: Costa Rica - Easily the worst city I have ever been to.
To which city in Costa Rica are referring to?

Whoops meant San Jose. My mate got sick in Nicaragua and needed a blood test so we headed to San Jose. On day 1 we were pulled over by the police, had our passports scanned and questioned if we had drugs. Decided to get a bus the hell out the next day and whilst looking for a taxi at 3am had a gang ride passed on mopeds making gun signs towards us! Streets were lined with transsexual hookers as well.

I'm sure the rest of Costa Rica is great though!

    Best - Rome and Orvieto
I spent a week in Rome and loved it, there was so much to see and after 7 days I still hadn't seen everything that I wanted to. It was very smelly and dirty and places but it is old and has a lot of character. I also found it surprisingly cheap but then I was staying with a local who advised on places to go, (The pizza was great!). I then spent 3 days in Orvieto, a lovely hill top town in the Umbrian countryside. I stayed in a stale but otherwise charming B&B (The owner was quite amusing) where food again was great and inexpensive.

Worst - Like others I've never had a BAD holiday experience, but most disapointing would be Paris. I went with my girlfriend but we didn't find it romantic at all. The food was awful, the beer was expensive, the people were rude, the hotel had wires dangling from the ceiling and our "en-suite" was a sink behind a curtain (but it was very cheap), on leaving Paris we found out that our flight had switched terminals only when we arrived at the wrong one at CDG resulting in a bit of a last minute rush (as the 3 terminals are seperate buildings connected by a bus link), it turned out that easyjet had emailed me on the day we flew out to tell us this but of course we didn't have internet access, or feel the need to check our emails once in Paris.

It is of course possible to have the best and worst in one trip...

The best: Bom Bom Resort, a fantastic beach resort on the island of Principe off the coast of Gabon, Central Africa. Each bungalow was set amidst the palm trees opening onto the white sand beach, the layout based like the swirl of a conch shell. Champagne was on ice in the fridge, while the restaurant and bar were accessible by a walkway stretching across the shallow bay. We felt privileged to witness the wildlife seen only on this remote island and shared by so few.

The worst: the Makokou Hotel in the interior of Gabon, the singularly most unpleasant place we have ever stayed - complete with en suite cockroaches, crusty sheets which were barely dry, WC which we benignly thought was black ceramic but turned out not to have been cleaned ever, rationed toilet paper (we were accused of stealing it to use in the bush). We stayed there for a miserable 5 nights, and every night we cheered to think we were one night nearer to leaving.

OK I'm interested in this place!!!! how do you get there who did you book wih..

worst airport award has to go to zante! loved zanted itself but the airport is awful

You mean the shed? :rotfl: I liked Zante too, but you're definately right about the airport, we had to queue up outside at about 4 in the morning when we were flying home as they were doing work there so we wouldn't all fit inside the terminal

Best place I've ever been - New York, definately. Would go back at the drop of a hat. The people were all amazing, so friendly, and so much to see and do. All the beach holidays I've had to touristy Brit places have been good - Salou, Ibiza, Alcudia, Zante, although most were when I was younger.

Don't really have a worst place but some things I didn't like about places I've been were -

Lanzarote, sea was freezing cold with big waves so not very good for swimming. Was also very windy! Otherwise nice, would definately recommend the volcano tour

Malta - went when I was younger and found it a little bit boring. Hotel was quite out of the way and we were in one of the quieter parts so not much to do. Liked tootling round on the little buses though!

Paris - lovely city but you get constantly harassed at the touristy spots. Suppose it's the same everywhere but annoying all the same.

Worst - Heraklion Airport - total chaos - closely followed by Athens.

Just wanted to add about Zante that it's not that bad if you stay out of Laganas. We were at Argassi which had a nice quiet beach, hotel was nice, and it was fairly quiet on a night. Some decent bars and cheap cocktails for a few drinks, but not totally crazy. We went to Laganas one night on a drinking tour organised by our reps and I can see why people hated staying there! Typical drunken Brits being hooligans. Shame that everyone seems to be put off by it though

My DH is part Italian & very dark skinned.

We got off the plane in Heraklion & it is chaos, you don't know whos coming & who's going.

A man stopped my DH & said the weather must have been cracking - how long you been here?

My DH said about 15 minutes, we just got off the Gatwick plane:D
