hi guys been reading everyones comments with interest im a old user of mse but forgot my pasword and so started up a new one i was successful in claiming back my bank charges a couple of years ago thanks to the mse site and am now looking into reclaiming my ppi i have a few questions which i hope some one might be able to help with

first some details i took out a loan in 2003 with hfc bank for £7000 over 7 years (never again) ended up paying back £14000 + i have phoned hfc to enquire if i was paying ppi after seeing the news reports sure enough i was and i didnt relise!!! at no point during my meeting in the bank did they mention this extra ppi insurance and back in 2005 i became self employed informed them of this back then but it seems i was still charged for it even though it wouldnt be of any use to me,they have lodged my complaint and will get back to me

also had a egg loan back in 2004 borrow £1200 over the phone over 5 years paid back £3000 + and also phoned them to enquire if it had ppi and yes it was added so they have also lodged a compaint for me and am wiating to hear

i have a hsbc, abbey and an egg credit card now with these i know back a couple of years ago after seeing martins comments about ppi i did some phoning around and cancelled the ppi on them the question is up until that point (i had the cards a few years before i cancelled the ppi) can i claim for the ppi paid on them up till the date i cancelled the insurance?

i also had a burtons menswear store card which i opened back in 1996 whilst at college when i was 17 (i think) which was sold to me over the counter by a member of staff i closed the account back in 2008 but since hearing of the ppi insurance checked back was also paying ppi insurance on that one is this card/account to far back to claim my ppi? back when i first opened it it was run by ge money then it changed over to santander i rang santander and they gave me a right run around firstly they took all my details because i no longer had my account information and stated that there was no record of my account with them so they couldnt help then i was luckily enough to find some old statements at my mums so rang them back and all of a sudden they did have my account details, i asked them if i was paying ppi on my cards and the chap told me i did but he couldnt help as apparently he didnt have any details of my account apart from my account number and my name as i had closed the account so he wasnt prepared to help i asked him for a contact for the complaints department and he just refused and put the phone down on me!!!! do you think that this guys was just messing me around will they still have my details on record as i know 1997 is a long time but i only closed the account 2 years ago? would this be worth persuing do you think?

sorry its so long winded and hope you guys can help i love mse :)

I thought i would do what Di3004 keeps advising people to do, so I dragged my partners credit card statements out, now i already am using a 3rd party for a tussle with welcome and thought that i'd give hers ago myself, she wasn't that interested as it wouldn't be that much, ( I say not interested but doesn't think she will get any back, but keep telling her "you don't ask, you don't get")
She has a CC with A&L (now with MBNA) since feb 2003 and has got PPI on there from day 1, have worked it out from the start and totals £1192.31 plus int (=£1975.46) as you can imagine she started listening!!! I'll get to my question in a sec, she's also had late charges on her account going back to Jan 2004, i know about the £12 thingy re June 2006) totaling £710.
So, here's the question, can she apply for all the PPI going back to Feb 2003 or does it have to be in the last 6 years and if so from what exact date?
Can i also apply for the Late charges on the same form, I'm really struggling with all these forms to be honest!!!

Please help, probably DI as i dont think she sleeps as she's always helping people on here!!!

    LOL, i'm back :D

I would try to go all the way, its been done, I was successful for making a reclaim on a 2001 case and that was last year.

Personally I would keep the charges side of it separately, it works out more this way I believe.
So for help on that one, I would post on the main thread here.........

Hi and welcome back to MSE.

Well done on the reclaiming of your charges.

I would go for them all no matter how old, if we don't try we will never know.
I would also make them aware that its only now you became aware of the mis selling of ppi, so they cannot come back and say its too late.

Even if you cancelled you can still try making a reclaim on what you have paid, plus interest etc.

If you still hold any of the details, ie; the account numbers then do it.;)
I understand they should hold details going back the last 6 years anything beyond that is a bonus, however I am aware people have made reclaims by just using the account numbers and have still been successful.

    Good luck.

Give FOS a ring and see what they have to say.
I hope this is not another stunt by the banks to get out of paying, a lot on here have won with claims from the 90s and had the refund.

Could be the new trend from the banks as others too have reported this:(

    Hi hun
Did also leave the same question over the road just now, but no worries :D, did you send them copies of your own paperwork - so they have something to work on for the previous years, they've no excuse then?
But otherwise its a move to the FOS in my opinion, but you do what you feel is right for you. Good luck.x
