I guess this might be a "it's different for everyone" question, but will ask anyway..

When baby's movements get strong enough for me to feel them for definite, how many times a day do you tend to feel it? At the minute, it feels a bit like bubbles popping or swirling/spinning movements and lasts a few minutes at a time, maybe 3-4 times a day. What's the next step?

Thanks (if you even get what I mean!) :D

You will be different from day to day, but more when you are resting or lying in the bath. I have felt movements for a long time but you do when you've had a few babies. You will probably be able to work out where the feet, mine today are right side low down. Mine sometimes last a couple of minutes, others quarter an hour.

I agree with the others though. Later they do seem to be in a routine which carries on after birth.

    Thanks all :D

greent, like you said, I notice it when I'm sat down - at my desk at work and like right now, lying on the sofa!

OH tells me off if I prod my belly at bedtime - says I'll wake it up and it'll serve me right if Baby doesn't sleep at night after birth! :(

LOL elle - it was the first time someone mentioned 'doubling up' maternity pads that I had an OMG moment - have you seen how big those things are? TWO of them will come down to your knees :rotfl:
I never needed to double up, and I don't see how that would work coz wouldn't the sticky bit stop it getting through to the bottom pad

    Evening!

Right, I've dug out some info on going beyond 40 weeks, and I have to say it really isn;t as scary as they try to make out. Yes, the risk of the baby being stillborn does pretty much double from 40 to 42 weeks, but the actual figures are not that frightening - from .86 births in a thousand at 40 weeks, to 1.55 in 1,00 at 41 weeks and 2.12 in 1,000 at 42 weeks.

    Full info here:
    http://www.homebirth.org.uk/nonsensus.pdf
You will need to scroll down for the table but the whole study makes interesting reading if you have time.

    Among its conclusions are:
Approximately one-quarter of pregnant women have not laboured by 41
weeks. Their stillbirth rate in the subsequent week without fetal surveillance is approximately 1 in 1000.

It is mostly based on non-English figures, although the ones I've quoted above are for London, as i felt they'd be most appropriate to us.

There is also feeling that people are not overdue, rather that theri dates are wrong, and I have to say that considering midwives just go on a standard 28-day cycle and in cases like mine, of pregnancy after mc, pluck 'LMPs' out of midair, I think this is a very likely scenario.

    more info here: http://www.homebirth.org.uk/overdue.htm

THis link http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/datesppr.html#THE is interesting but very heavy-going - I haven;t got all the way through yet but it backs up the wrong dates theory.

There's some general info on going over 40 weeks here http://www.womens-health.co.uk/prolonged.asp which is easy to read and user-friendly.

Finally, here http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/postdates.html there is a discussion about the subject which may be of interest.

Overall, personally, I'm not convinced going to 42 weeks is inherently dangerous ( I feel the risks are pretty small assuming you are well and have have a good pregnancy) although I can also understand that other people would prefer not to take any such risk at all.

Finally, you cannot be forced to be induced, as they can't make you have a medical procedure unless they have sectioned you under the Mental Health Act, so just because they blothely talk about booking you in for induction you are within your rights to say no.

Hope that helps girls, and I'd be up for hearing other evidence/information on the subject.

OOh - hello! where have you been?!

The out of town Next in Chelt DID stock maternity - 3 1/2 years ago when I was pg with DS2 - but it may well have changed (bah!) so good idea :D

As to those talking about pads/ mooncups etc, I always use maternity pads for 2 packs worth - however long that lasts! - and then go onto always nighttimes. I've never doubled up on mat pads, but do change fairly regularly (weak bladder = lots of loo visits anyway:o ) However, all my pgs have had bleeds lasting 6-7 weeks :( Oh, for a 3 weeker - I'm sure they're just an urban myth!

My reg periods are heavy (and clotty - tmi?!:o ) and I can't use a mooncup, however much I like the idea - I can't use anything internal cos of my prolapse (shut your eyes for that word, Sami!!!) Apparently minor prolapses can be helped by tampons (they hold it up!) but mine's a bit too far gone :( ....... So I always end up on pads nowadays.

Have to say that the first time you can go to bed after bubs without undies on (feeding bra to keep breast pads in place and knickers for pads) is great :D :rotfl: Quite liberating!!! Although if you are wearing a tshirt / nightshirt and have a just- fed baby projectile vomit said feed all over your uncovered 'foof' it is very messy!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Ah - motherhood - and the joys thereof!!!!

oooh everyone asking where I've been, I feel so special!!
This morning we went to Toddler group and then spent the rest of the day with my mum coz she's on her half term hols.

and Its too late I'm pretty sure that I have the 'P word' I was gonna mention it to MW when I see her 2mo do you know/think she'll do anything or should I see my GP:confused: First timers look away now... I finally got the courage to feel up there and something was definitly encroaching on the space IYKWIM I'm traumatised!

:eek:I may be a weirdo for this but the longest I have not worn knickers for is probably the 4 hours of labour with Chris, I can't stand the thought of going commando for anything:o

Feely hope you don't mind me saying but as you have mentioned a weight problem I thought I might mention it :)
I have been on the Depo too and both times for a few years - both times I was taken off it because of severe weight gain... When you have had little 'un I would seriously recommend you speak to your GP about NOT going back on it... I have found the weight VERY difficult to shift and yet until I was on the Depo I was a size 12...
Not saying it's the only cause but please discuss it with your GP when you start considering birth control again - you might find that something else is more suitable and if you want it might be easier to lower your BMI if you want once you've been off it for a year :)

I was on depo as well and I put on two stone on it - that onyl came off when I came off depo. It also made me depressed in 12-weekly cycles.
