Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Combo Breaker Name Dropper
Morning - I'm of to the office for the day - partially to get my expenses signed off but also to get away from my MIL who's been here since saturday. I HATE being told how to live my life! She even started questioning my heamoglobin levels etc - "don't believe a word the doctors and Mws tell you - if they say it's normal doesn't mean it is it has to be over 11!" Told her I ate enough lentil soup to keep it more than high enough which she didn't believe so with a huge sigh I dragged my folder out and proved it was 14 last time it was checked... She's not gone on about my tests since ;)
They've also brought no clothes so are wearing ours - to save on costs on the plane they only have carry on luggage.

And best of all they are moaning because we haven't told them what we'd like them to buy for the baby... bearing in mind they bought SIL a bed for her little 'un when she arrived for several hundred pounds... We told them a cotbed would be nice - which I've now bought myself because I don't see any point in asking them for it again as every time they have been home they have had to borrow money of us and I'd rather have that back thanks... We even had to pay for their hotel when they came to visit in May for our wedding - we gave them a years notice! and that money is still missing in action... And they wonder why we don't ask them for things for the baby??? We'd only have to pay for them anyway :)
And tomorrow Dh will have to leave at 5 to take them to the airport because they have booked an early flight - "we'll just take a bus or a train".... uhmmm for an 8am flight? it takes over an hour to drive there! Busses and trains would involve 2 or 3 changes depending on what route they take. So unless they leave tonight (tempting!) they'd never get there in time - but they never think about that when they come or book their flights. It's just assumed we'll "fix it" and it's poor DH who has to drive them down there before then driving to the other side of the M25 in rush hour to get to his office for a meeting. They just never think about if their plans might not fit in with people who work because SIL doesn't work and BIL rarely does...

And breeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeathe.... :) Sorry about that just needed a rant!!!

Sometimes I feel terribly fortunate that my beloved's parents are dearly departed. My ex's mother was such a nightmare that he has a trauma-related disorder from having to deal with her, and I still occasionally have nightmares about the b!tch.

Boxes had colouring books, new pencils, stickers and games in. All poundland, and things that I knew that would keep them going for quite a while. Also cartons of juice, snacks, sweets and nibbles so that my friends wouldn't worry about what they were allowed.

Was I relaxed, completely. I was in total control. How I sat, were I went, what I drank. Midwives step back and let you do what you feel you want and just step in occasionally to monitor bubs. It was in the back of my mind what if something happened but the midwives are more than prepared for that. One HB I has 2 MW's, last time I had 3. You will be lucky to have 1 in hospital for most of your labour. Within minutes of bubs being born your family are there having a cuddle. It's fantastic.

That's a great idea about snacks, colouring books and whatnot. I'm actually just off to go shopping in a min and was going to get some bits and bobs (bucket and bowl as requested by the MWs anyone?! :D)

We're still not sure what to do with DDs. I put on my birth plan that I'm fine with having them around (DD1 aged 5 wants to see baby being born) but know I might change my mind when it's all going on, so we have people on standby to help out/come round/have the girls depending on how things go.

OH isn't that keen on having the girls here, partly because he's worried if people don't get here in time to look after DDs then he'll have to divide his attention and doesn't want to miss anything bless him, and that because this is his first baby, he admits he's a bit selfish and wants this to be something for me and him iyswim?

I understand completely, but part of my thinking behind a home birth was that having the girls around and not having to leave them to go into hospital, and them meeting baby brother when he's born will be a great bonding 'stepfamily' experience, particularly for the girls (although having said that I don't have specific worries as OH is fabulous with them and they adore him to bits!)

Also I woke up about 3am an dcall me odd but I knew there was 'something', some reason why I had woken up, and turns out I had a show. I'm 39 weeks today so was all nervous and excited, and oddly after two weeks of near enough insomnia, after finding that out I slept soundly til OH got up to go to work :j Very influential to me of the psychological aspects of going into labour, I feel like things are going on, they did spontaneously with DD1 but not with DD2 (planned HB but chose induction at 43 weeks after she refused to come out, no big signs of anything going on in there towards my body labouring itself, and placenta had started to calcify.) So I've been constantly wondering if that will be the case this time - and I want this HB sooooooooo much that I'm so relieved to have had a show... I just hope that means things might be slowly starting to happen!

And if you got to the end of that ramble then well done you LOL! :D

    Ooh I think I'm anaemic.
Doctors surgery just phoned to inform me the Doc has written me a script for Iron tablets, I had no Idea why, I aint been to them so I'm guessing my bloods came back and have shown I'm anaemic.
I've got antenatal with the MW today at 2.30pm, then my scan on Thurs, cant wait!

I had a c section with my first who was breach. A planned c section is fine - really! I much preferred it to my subsequent delivery with ventouse.

Because you don't go through any labour, you are not tired before the baby is born, and because the baby isn't usually in distress the hospital team (and you) are very relaxed and jolly. With mine, I went out for brunch in the morning with OH and my sister, went in to hospital mid afternoon and had baby at 6.30pm. We were able to take our own music and a camera down to theatre, and my OH was there throughout. They screen off the operation site so you don't see any gore and they lower it a little so you can see baby being lifted out. I was in great form afterwards, pain was really well controlled and 3 days later I was up and about as normal. My BF who has just had a planned c section had it on Tuesday morning and was discharged on Wednesday afternoon so a long hospital stay isn't quaranteed any more.

I know it must be really scary but unless ur baby is feet first you have no choice but to have a section hun, bum first is physically impossible to get out any other way.
From what I've heard Planned sections are actually quite "nice" to go through as you will no what is going to happen and everything is generally really calm, apposed to an emergency one where it can be quite scary for everyone.

Have you told the consultant how scared you are? I'm sure they would be really understanding and do everything they can to make you feel as calm as possible, I think they even let you pick music to play on a cd stereo in the theatre room.
Could you have a private room? you might prefer to pay for one if necessary so you feel less like ur in hospital on a ward IYKWIM

    Big hugs hun x
