well i am 38weeks on thursday this week, i went for ecv last wednesday they tried 3 times to turn my baby but no luck.
went back to hospital yesterday and little one is still breach, they have now booked me in for a c section, i am so scared....
this is my 5th baby and have had home births in the past, i absolutly hate hospitals, and worse still i have got to stay in for 3 days !!!
any one got any advice or can tell me how there c section was, just wandered if i change my mind and tell them im not having this c section what will they do, can they force me to have it ??
have tried lots of things to turn baby but no luck, it is not a big baby and i only measure 35 cm.....
    please help, thanks in advance

They can't *make* you have a cs - but it may be the best bet depending on what sort of breech babes is.

DD was breech (undiagnosed - so I was already 5cm when they found out!:rotfl: ). I had an older & experienced mw who was happy to let me labour (I had constant monitoring and a mw with me constantly) (I was happy to do so)I laboured, fully dilated and attempted to push for over 2 hours but had no pushing sensation and she was my first, so I didn't get 'how' to push (very natural response when you get that pushing sensation - nothing will stop you!!), so she didn't move. Although she wasn't in distress I ended up with a cs due to 'failure to descend' - but she was a frank breech (folded in half) and coming down bum first - so she wasn't going to move! I had a spinal block for my cs, so knew what was going on.

I had her at 11.05 am Thurs morning, was walking around that evening and could have gone home Sat evening, but chose to stay in until Mon afternoon as she had outpatients appointments on the Monday (clicky hips) and it saved a return journey:p

I had a cs with a running bead stitch - was removed after about a week or so by my mw at home (on my sofa).

Oh - I went into town shopping on the Mon afternoon - prob not the best thing to do as I was tired! However, I was shopping for Xmas pressies (bday was 11th Dec) the following Sat in town. Also went out for a Xmas meal that week with work colleagues (didn't drive, obviously!) - but I have to confess I did drive on Boxing Day night (less than 2 miles from my parents to our house) Oh and we resumed doing *it* on Xmas eve:o :o

I have to say that my stitches from DS1 (VBAC) hurt a lot more that my cs. I actually asked for a cs with DS2 because of this - but they found I'd been badly stitched and had a doctor stitch me after VBAC birth of DS2 instead - much better healing (and no pain during s*x or tearing afterwards, unlike with DS1) (I'm not knocking mw stitches - just I had a bad one - even my comm mw when she visited me coomented on how strangely they were done (she cut the threads and took some out cos they were so strange)

Can you find out what sort of breech babe is and go from there? Feet dangling might be an option. Hospitals don't deliver many breeches now, which is a shame.

However, if you do end up having a cs, a planned one isn't bad. ALthough mine wasn't planned, it wasn't a big rush emergency - so I could have the spinal. I was on a ward with 2 other cs births - emergencies - and their recovery time seemed much worse after their GAs (I don't know any details though, so circumstances could have been quite bad - one was certainly moved off ward into private room the next day as she was still quite bad - her mum ended up staying at the hosp with her all the time)

Main thing is the safe delivery of babe and that you both end up ok:D

:A aww poor lil AM! Don't worry you only have to do one very little squeeze to get it out it really was nothing :D

PS Jo_R I think the bucket will be to catch the placenta and then they will inspect it in a bowl ;)

I had it last time and the actual injection hurt a bit (probably because my MW jst shoved it in my thigh without warning!)
Its one of the things I'm going to discuss in more detail this time around as I'm still considering not cutting the cord as quickly as usual and so I don't know if they would still give it to me just wait a bit longer or not.
I will deffo be making sure its clear to the MWs that no needles should touch me with out warning tho! I need to prepare myself!

Have you been given a leaflet about it? I've got one that was made by my PCT about that and vit K for baby, If in doubt have a discussion with ur MW :)

Thanks everyone for your posts re the needle to deliver the placenta. I will discuss it with my MW this afternoon.

The reason i have quoted Sami's post is that she mentions delaying cutting the cord.

I have put it in my notes and will be speaking to my MW about it becuase I DO NOT want the cord cut until it stops pulsating. I raised this with the MW that took my parentcraft class on the weekend. She said it is extremely benifical NOT to cut the cord (to baby) until it has stopped pulsating but as it is not common practice (albeit one she would recommend) i need to make it known that it is what i want.

Not sure if hubby wants to cut the cord so if he doesn't, i am going to do it.
  • AF, I wanted to cut the cord when I had Aimee... But when it came to it, I couldn't be bothered lol... My sister did it for me... OH might cut this one... Or I might if it doesn't take so long...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Sami - I'm indian and Oh is white, his uncles family are very religious and VERY ignorant! We had some huge issues around the wedding when they said they would come to the church ceremony and not the indian ceremony, so we told then that they either came to both ceremonies or not to bother coming to either, so they just came to the reception instead. The point is we had both ceremonies to show respect to both sides of the family, so why couldn't they show me the same respect? My and OH are both Athiests so it wasn't like we needed to have a religious ceremony at all, let alone 2!

rant over...back to happy baby thoughts!

What you have to give birth to the placenta too  :p

Don't know about anyone else, but I don't remember pushing it out - more the midwives sort of pulling it out whilst I was cuddling/ feeding babe? Or am I misremembering?:o No biggie, anyway, and I personally didn't notice the jab:D

On the subject of Vit K, I def have this for my babies - I had 'haemorrhagic (sp) disease of the newborn' after birth (which is what Vit K stops) - and ended up in special care for a few weeks (and my survival was touch and go) I know you can have the drops, but I'd rather the babes had it in their system quickly given that (My comm mw was impressed to find that in my records, having never come across a case before)

Jo_R - Is there any chance you could get ur OH to see MW with you so she can discuss all the benefits of a HB? If he's anything like my OH I know they won't read any info you gave them but he can't escape if someone is talking with him!
It must be quite scary for them I think :)

Hypno - am I right in thinking you are white and OH is black or did I make that up? I'm glad that whatever their issue you keep it as theirs, very growed up of you! :T
How old are you, 3? :p :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My Mum is white and my Dad is black, My aunt refused to even look at me, let alone hold me when I was born because I was ''too white'' :rotfl:
