  • Firstly may I thank whoever posted this thread as it was Google's first hit when I searched on WIV. When I saw the hit, I thought, "Money Saving Expert? I'm sure to get some help there as to whether this letter's a scam or not." And I was right.

I thought I'd add my two penn'orth as well, as I've managed to get a straight and clear answer regarding the letters and what action I've taken.

    I went to Pieroth's website http://www.pieroth.com/gb/start.php and quickly found a UK telephone number: 01582 406 300.

There is also a list of addresses, email addresses, telephone and fax numbers for Pieroth International - go to http://www.pieroth.com/gb/12kontakt/index.php?inhalt=/gb/12kontakt/12_01.php (sorry, my work PC's server routes through Switzerland so this link gives a webpage that has some German text on but it's easy to understand) then click on 'Pieroth International' at the top of the screen, third link on the list.

When I called the UK number, my call was answered by a woman introducing herself as 'sales'. I briefly explained that I wanted to find out if the letter's details were "too good to be true" and was told that "...a sampling of 6 specially selected high quality wines..." are not six bottles (if only!) but what would happen is a representative would visit my home with six wines for a tasting.

As this isn't nearly as interesting and enticing an offer as just having six bottles of plonk delivered to me, I asked the woman if she could remove me from their mailing list, which she agreed to with no fuss whatsoever. All she needed was my postcode, house number and surname - each reasonable details to get my name off their records in my opinion.

I want to assure any doubters to my genuine intentions. I'm a general member of the public who received a similar letter to those detailed by previous posters, featuring the binoculars offer.

I may only be a 'one-post-wonder' but that is solely because I have just registered not 30 minutes ago with the intention of clarifying WIV's chosen wording in the letter and telling you all about how I got the information I've given to you. You guys scratched my back, and I'm returning the favour.

I got a letter too. Decided to post it back and within a few weeks received a call to arrange my gift delivery. In Australia it was a little pair of binoculars. Cute. A sales rep came around and showed us some wine. The wine is beautiful. No pressure to buy or to re-order, although I do re-order now. And it's a 6 bottling SAMPLING not free samples, but if you really like wine, then try these ones. Very smooth, pure. Yum :-)

The wine really is amazing. I didn't like wine until I tried Pieroth. It's natural wine. Didn't even get a hangover after the last party :-) No more cheap wine for me

I'm one of Pieroth (WIV) customers now.
A lot of you are making judgements on this company without substance.
The wine is beautiful, high quality, great price for what you're getting, and non-sales-like sales staff. Normal people who love wine like me....

I just got the letter. Free binocs and wine samples.
Why did they pick me. This is unsolicited mail. JUNK and should go where it belongs.
    I don't even like wine.
I don't like salesmen either. I like shops and I'll buy my binocs there cos I'm "not afraid to pay for a good product."
If you're not afraid to pay for a good product then forget the binoculars mate, WIV's wines are really good

    HI there
I know this Company and its not as good as it first looks!!
I belive the first thing you will see is that the letter will say "sampling of 6 wines". Now thats the the tricky part. All the wine company want,
    is you phone no.
When you send it back a Rep will call you and try and come and visit you in you home.Give you a small taste of 3 White and 3 Red wines.
He will then try and sell you the wine, which is priced around £12- £15 per bottle and you will have to buy in case quantites of 12. You will of course recive your "free gift" but for the next few years you will recive phone calls from them trying to sell you more wine.

Its up to you, Some of the "top shelf" wine is very nice but thye 12 -15 pound stuff I belive you can get better in Tesco or like for half the price.
    I hope that helps .....

I hear you Eddie, but I disagree. I buy wine from this mob now, and their wine is high quality, natural wine. The 12-15 pound wines they have would retail for 20-25 pounds and you'd rarely find this quality in a supermarket!

Pete, I don't care how good they are I don't like wine and I hate this kind of marketing.
It's simple the method is to catch you into giving out info about yourself and persuading you to order.
Shops are best..no salesman on commission and no intrusions...and good wine if you want it

They seem to have started another marketing campaign - I received the binoculars/tasting offer yesterday.

I'd guess it was genuine as far as it goes - but any organisation that sends salesmen/girls to you home with relatively low budget items and a tacky 'free' gift is going to be overcharging for them compared to a supermarket or discount wine merchant. Their sales costs are just too high.

On the contrary, their low marketing budget allows them to employ sales reps who are nice people, to do personalised wine tastings for prospective and existing clients, and provide very good wine for great prices.
