There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

I actually meant it.0 -
I too received the binoculars and wine letter and googled to find out more. After reading this forum my advice is to bin the offer.
I'm a customer of Sunday Times Wine Club and Laithwaite's, which are essentially the same thing, and of Virgin Wines. As a satisfied customer with no other interest in these business, I recommend any or all of them. You can easily find ads for the first two offering half price introductory cases, wine descriptions are reliable and as contact is only by mail you will never be under pressure or feel any obligation to buy.
What possible value is there in being bothered at home by a salesman (as opposed to a wine expert) wanting you to sample from bottles which may have been open for days and have certainly been shaken about in the boot of somebody's car?
Incidentally, when a contributor makes a sweeping statement about knowing supermarket wines and not liking them, credibility hits the floor.0 -
I received some mail today, asking a few questions about my wine drinking habits and offering a free wall clock and 6 bottles of wine for responding.
The company is W.I.V, Dallow Road, Luton, Beds, LU1 1UR
It all looks pretty reasonable, and the WIV website (wiv-ag.com) looks professional.
Has anyone tried this before? My concern is that I will suddenly get a unrequested box of wine on a regular basis with a demand for payment.
However, if it as above board, I do enjoy my wine, especially if I can get 6 free bottles.
HI there
I know this Company and its not as good as it first looks!!
I belive the first thing you will see is that the letter will say "sampling of 6 wines". Now thats the the tricky part. All the wine company want,
is you phone no.
When you send it back a Rep will call you and try and come and visit you in you home.Give you a small taste of 3 White and 3 Red wines.
He will then try and sell you the wine, which is priced around £12- £15 per bottle and you will have to buy in case quantites of 12. You will of course recive your "free gift" but for the next few years you will recive phone calls from them trying to sell you more wine.
Its up to you, Some of the "top shelf" wine is very nice but thye 12 -15 pound stuff I belive you can get better in Tesco or like for half the price.
I hope that helps .....0 -
I just got the letter. Free binocs and wine samples.
Why did they pick me. This is unsolicited mail. JUNK and should go where it belongs.
I don't even like wine.
I don't like salesmen either. I like shops and I'll buy my binocs there cos I'm "not afraid to pay for a good product."0 -
I've just received the same piece of junk mail and I will do what I normally do - return their pre-paid envelope empty.
The letter even looks like junk and as for the "cracker" quality binoculars!
Cheers

Is the idea of posting on here to tell people you received junk mail called junk posting?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thats a nice post in answer to someones first post, who says they annoy the company by sending in the pre paid envelope they got with the junk mail, empty.
No wonder some people only post a few times and then stop.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
The offer that I received was for a Pair of bioculars + 6 bottles of wine, all for free. This is probably a marketing ploy for disclosure of phone/e-mail info. to be used to cold call for overpriced or low quality wines. The principle to apply should be 'If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is'.0
