I received some mail today, asking a few questions about my wine drinking habits and offering a free wall clock and 6 bottles of wine for responding.
The company is W.I.V, Dallow Road, Luton, Beds, LU1 1UR
It all looks pretty reasonable, and the WIV website (wiv-ag.com) looks professional.
Has anyone tried this before? My concern is that I will suddenly get a unrequested box of wine on a regular basis with a demand for payment.
However, if it as above board, I do enjoy my wine, especially if I can get 6 free bottles.
I used to work for Pieroth, until I realised that hard sell, focus on certain customers and dropping the commission yet raising prices was the way forward. A few things you should know.
Have you wondered why you have had the letter in the post? The area is picked, the more affluent post codes are picked in advance. The Rep will first look at your replies, if you are retired you will definetely get a call. The thinking is, the older the person the more disposable income they will have. Won't you agree Aromulus. If you are working then you are next on the list. The Rep will ring you and would like to know more about you, where do you buy your wine, how much do you drink a month, how much do you roughly spend. If you spend more than £10 on a bottle, and drink 6-10 bottles a week and buy from reputable shops then when the sales pitch comes, they will say to you, well you told me that you drink this amount, you said that you pay this amount, thats 6 bottles a week x 4 weeks thats 24 bottles, thats 2 cases, the older person will find it hard to argue,
If you are unemployed, then its unlikely you will get a call, unless its to fill up the diary - need to go out with 30 visits a week.
the gift is a way to get you in and trying the wine.
Don't get me wrong, the wine is nice, but there are added sulfites in the wines even though you will be told there arent. Read the bottle it will say contains sulfites.
If you do buy, then fair enough, you will be called at least 3 times a month by your "wine man from Pieroth" this could be any of the offices in the UK. If one office doesnt get a sale then someone else will ring. These are usually from the more experienced guys who get all the money. The guys who come to you to sample the wines or do the wine tastings are the setters up if you say.
I finally gave up after being told that an old person should give a minimum of 2 cases (24 bottles average £350-£400.
The 6 day week didnt help along with the 12p a mile that you could claim.

think this sort of company employs very young or desperate people on a commission only basis. They get minimum training which consists of learning a script and combating a few common objections with bull@hit. They only earn any money if they actually sell something, so there is a very high turnover of staff. The ones who stay are the most ruthless and persistent - the annoying, unprincipled, arrogant and/or stupid ones. Two of my children have worked briefly for exploitative companies like this, basically for free. Even their managers were incredibly young - 20-21: it seems to be a trend getting more or less free sales labour from youngsters, bypassing the minimum wage.
Actually amazed at how insulting some people can be....do u really have nothing better to do?0
