Moving to TalkTalk

  • Hi everyone

Firstly, Emma, could you please reply to the email I sent you last week? If it's not reached you could you email me at andrea @ moneysavingexpert dot com please. Thanks!

Secondly, yes some of Emma's posts have been removed. I'm going to allow this one. It's responding to a direct question asked by someone already intending to move to TalkTalk.

Lastly, yes clicking the report button does get an admin reading the post and judging it on its merits, no it doesn't just get a post deleted.

    Andrea :)

The MSE site has been highlighting the Talk Talk Staff promotion recently and I now see on the Carphonewarehouse website (but not Talk Talk's) that it has been extended to 2nd March. Just select the pulldown for Broadband and Laptops and follow your nose.

To take advantage of this you must either phone the freephone number or visit a Carphonewarehouse shop - Don't use the Availability Checker as it excludes this deal (I quote this from the Carphone website).

ps - I'm retired and don't work for anybody!!

Thanks to those who took the trouble to address my query.

EmmaL has pretty much answered my main question, thank you Emma.
The thing I'm still not sure about is how best to time the move - this being a Money Saving forum???

I was of the very same opinion until a few months ago when a pall of mine signed up and - accept for some problems during the initial transfer (mainly due to BT) - he has no regrets.
Since then I have regularly visited the TalkTalk forum and a better support, not least from EmmaL, I can not imagine!

Thanks for the information, will check it out.
    Best regards

Hi Mima, I know you ask about Talktalk (and I agree what Emma said is not spam cause it was a direct response to your question) anyway have you throught about Sky , O2 or Tiscali? Oh and the Post Office all using cashback sites. They might work out cheaper overall or slightly more expensive but with a better service. Anyway what Emma said is very good advise the only thing I would add is once you move cancel the DD from BT if you are paying monthly.

I signed up with Talk Talk over 2 weeks ago after e7even, (186k), went kaput!! Was promised the Welcome Pack and confirmed go-live date within 2 weeks. Has not happened. The go-live date was supposed to be within 20 days of ordering the service. So far I have failed to receive the Welcome Pack/go-live date/router, instead I just get emails apologising and telling me that there is a delay to the setting up of my service but not giving any indication as to when my service will be active. My 30 day temporary broadband service provided by Tiscali after the failure of e7even, (186k), will cease on 12th Feb. If TalkTalk had done as they promised I should have been up and running by 10th Feb at the latest and the transition should have been a smooth one. I do not hold out much hope now and am fully expecting to be left high and dry by TalkTalk. Needless to say I am not impressed  Beware, TalkTalk give false promises!!!

Hi and thanks for the suggestions but outside of BT, only Sky and TT are available in my area and as I do not subscribe to Sky, it does not leave me any better options .
Anyway, I am quite happy to give TT a try and if I'm wrong, I'll back here telling you all about it.

    Mir!
I sympathise. I've been there three times myself so understand the frustration, once when I changed to my present ISP and twice with my relative's broadbanb.
Each time however, as well as my pall's move to TT, the problem was of BT's making.

This is why I'm so weary this time - switching both the phone line and broadband - double trouble???.

But this is of no help to you at all.
All I can suggest is that you register on the TalkTalk forum. I've seen problems which have been going on for weeks resolved there in a matter of a few hours if not minutes.
    Good luck!
    Best regards

Hi Mima the post office one is not LLU product, they resell the BT wholesale product so if you can get BT you can get the Post Office. And with the big cashback it is quite good. About the problems ppl had with Talktalk, to be honest most of the problems had was when Talktalk was first started, dont get me wrong people still have problems but not in the scale that there were back than, Also now one advantage as you already pointed out in sort, is they have that forum and Emma here to sort out problems quicker if they arise. If I knew Emma was on here I might of ask her to sort my dad's problem out but he got upset with one of the Customer Service and hence in the final stage of moving to Sky now.

One last thing Emma, have a check on samknows and it tell you if any other LLU are due to go online in the next few months. And also maybe Emma might know but could an existing customer "RECOMMEND YOU" to talktalk and you get the deal CPW is offering but also get or they get something else as well... If so might be worth asking your friend to recommend you to get that extra saving you are after :-D

Oh one thing about the post office, which someone might be able to tell if it is a still an on-going problem or not is when it first started people were not getting bills for their service... Can say a very good money saving method :-D

...and have had no difficulties whatsoever. Arranged it all before moving in so it was up and running by the time we moved in.

You name the ISP, I've probably used it since getting connect way back in 1998 with AOL in Germany. My last one was Pipex, great technical service, pish customer relations (I was paying twice what a friend I introduced to Pipex for half the service, Pipex actually ignored my emails - until I cancelled on moving - too late).

After 18 months(-ish), we got LLU in our exchange and so get BB for free. Our home network of 3 PC workstations, two laptops and a netbook is connected 24/7.

...and I too thought that Emma provided a fulsome and appropriate response that drew a rather negative rebuke. Personally, I like to see such representatives getting involved and think they should be encouraged to spill the beans. For example, the Quidco person did some sterling work on my behalf recently, whipping his colleagues into action to deal with some long standing issues.

Anyway, TalkTalk has one content customer prepared to pen a few lines - any chance of a money-saving discount please?
