I have an LG7000 Scarlet series Full HD TV and the built-in digital tuner gives better reception than my Sky + box on some channels.
Maybe because the Sky HD box isn't actually true HD - it upscales to 1080i as a previous poster pointed out? Whereas your digital TV tuner is probably outputting at 1080p?
You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.
  • I have cancelled the subscription in my name and wife has gone via quidco to be the new subscriber. Am a major sceptic so not sure this will work but will update post either way.......

HD now installed and all appears fine, am slightly less sceptical than I was :D

Moved from Virgin Media to Sky HD - with the quidco and the M & S vouchers - what a deal!

i had sky hd installed nearly two weeks ago and dont get me wrong it is fanastic picture quality but i dont think its something to get too over excited about!!
i find i am not watching it as often as i had hoped and sometimes unless they re recorded they dont always show everything in high def!!
so i think once they abolish the monthly charge which i think they will do next like they did with the sky plus then it will be more worth the money.
thought i'd share my experience with this as i know we all are trying to keep our jobs and money in our pockets for as long as possible with all this recession at the moment.

i must agree, we got ours 3 weeks ago and i cant see what all the fuss is about... dont think it worth the money..
when will they abolish the hd charge per month?

Sky don't give much to existing customers - if you already have multi-room and one HD box you are expected to pay the full £199 plus installation charge. No good reason for this and no exceptions.

we had sky+ and when i registered interest in hd was told i had to pay £49 installation as i already had multiroom.
so when it was my time to order i did it through the red button on my sky+ box and i did not have to pay installation charges !!:j

    Hi Everyone

I have read through all the threads today as the wife has finally relented and said I can get HD :-)

It seems the best deal would be for the wife to sign up onlinetoday as a new customer to get the cashback and M&S vouchers. I would then call to cancel the existing sub 2moro.

Just a few questions from all who have done this :-
    a) which is the best site for the most cashback?
    b) my dad has sky would he be able to refer a friend or this only done if you ring up rather than do online?
    c) multi room - would want to move the existing sky plus box into another room which has no cables going to it? Does the wife need to request multi room for a standard box (which is free) or do we have to pay for another sky + box to enable the installer to put the extra cables in for sky plus? Or do we say that we want the HD in the other room and then just swap the boxes over when he has gone? - i am presuming the cables are the same for HD and sky + here of course???
    d) the offer for M&S vouchers is now £30.00 and expires tomorrow - unless anyone else knows anything different

    Thanks in advance

The SkyHD box outputs at 1080i and send this to your screen. If the screen can display that resolution (1920 x 1080) then it will display that interlaced picture, if it's not a 1080p (full HD) set then the screen will downscale to it's native resolution and display that.
  • I signed up for the new Sky + HD two days ago at Currys. I got the box, installation and dish for £29.99. I was very pleased with myself until I just checked topcashback.co.uk. They are giving £120 cash back for every new customer!! Gutted!!!
