Just had the HD box installed and our Sky Plus moved upstairs to replace the Standard Box we had up there

As we only have one HDMI input on the TV and our DVD player and Sky both need to connect via a HDMI route we need a HDMI Selector/Splitter

oes anyone know where to get cheap HDMI Selectors/Splitters, cheapest one I have seen is at Argos and is £12.97

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5347627/Trail/searchtext>HDMI+SELECTOR.htm

    Thanks

I had a similar problem, and decided on one of these -

    http://www.joytech.net/products.php?section=viewprod&catID=13&type=ps3&productID=126&ProductName=HDMI-TriLink-Switcher

It has a remote, but best of all it can be powered by a USB cable plugged into the back of your Sky box.

I've been using mine for a couple of weeks now and cannot fault it.

i had sky hd installed nearly two weeks ago and dont get me wrong it is fanastic picture quality but i dont think its something to get too over excited about!!
i find i am not watching it as often as i had hoped and sometimes unless they re recorded they dont always show everything in high def!!
so i think once they abolish the monthly charge which i think they will do next like they did with the sky plus then it will be more worth the money.
thought i'd share my experience with this as i know we all are trying to keep our jobs and money in our pockets for as long as possible with all this recession at the moment.

My hubby wanted Sky +HD, so I thought I'd test out the 'I'm a loyal customer' trick to get free installation.
First try ' No- only if you get multiroom'
    So I call back ......
Second try - Me -"Hi, I want to upgrade to Sky Hd. Can you tell me how much it is? "
CS Advisor " It's £49 with free installation".
Me - "Free installation you say?"
CS Advisor "Yes, that's right, free installation".
Me - "Right then, I'll have it!"

No arguing, no quibling .....£49. Fab!:T

I agree - we got HD a few months ago and I'm very disappointed with it. I get artefacts on the screen, with darkish patches showing on light backgrounds, and is particularly noticeable on faster moving programmes.
I didn't have this with the Sky+ box, nor when I watch downloaded programmes through my XBox360 so I think it's related to the Sky HD upscaling the picture to true HD output, while my TV is a 1080i one, so that upscales to true HD too. Or it might be that Sky just used a rubbish HDMI cable?
Either way HD is fine up to a point, especially for football where standard TV quality is appalling, but I wouldn't get too excited about it and I don't think it's worth the extra £120 a year.

sky dont upscale to "true" HD, true HD is infact 1080p, sky only upscale to 1080i which is not "true" high def but is close, regarding hdmi cable, now unless you actually have a "faulty" hdmi cable then this may be causing problems, but if you just think its a rubbish cable coz its only a budget cable then you have been fooled, hdmi cables all do the same job, weather you purchased a 14.99 cable or a £99 monster cable i can guanentee you wont notice the difference in picture using the same equipment, channel 5 gadget show done this test and advised people to save money and not get ripped off by these so called super cables at hundreds of pounds because there is no difference in picture quality what so ever, what sky hd box do you have? if its an amstrad box then you may have noticed that the contrast in the sky settings menu doesn't change and is stuck on high when connected via hdmi but still works on scart which is pointless, if this is the case then that may be what is causing your pic problems.

What's the point in having HD if you don't take the full package anyway?!
You're going to pay £10 a month extra for HD, yet you aren't getting the full set of channels if you revert back to your 2 mixes - you'll lose either the movies or the sports (whichever you didn't have before).
Seems a bit pointless to pay £10 and only receive a lower % of what's actually available!

isnt that so you can watch the free to air hd channels without paying the tenner and also you have a sky+ box for the other channels. makes sense if you dont have the movies or the sport as there are only a handful of other HD channels and some of the main ones are free to air

Unless I'm mistaken - you pay the extra £10 regardless of whether you take Sports/Movies. Therefore you're still paying £10 for the free-to-air HD channels (only BBC & C4 HD) and then you get 8 other HD channels including Sky1, MTV & FX.

It's only my opinion, but I would only take out HD if they reduced the £10 fee by basing it on the package you take up. It's £10 if you take just the Entertainment Package. It's £10 if you take Entertainment + Movies/Sports and it's £10 if you take the full set!
If you don't take up Movies in your package, you're still paying £10 and getting 10 less channels.

Besides which, I'm not interested in the movies because 90%+ of the movies weren't even filmed in HD, so all you're getting is an upscaled version.
I'm dubious anyway as I believe Sky have downgraded the quality of their standard programming to make HD look necessary.
