Can someone help? On my confirmation email, it says this is a full day installation appointment. How long does it normally take?
I would say half an hour to an hour depending on whether or not you already have Sky+. Normally the engineer will contact you the night before or on the morning of the appointment to give you a rough time as to when they will come.

    Hi

I currently have sky digital 2 channel mix and max broadband. Contract runs out on 25/3..

Can I cancel just the tv, then reapply as a new customer to get the HD via quidco? Or will I still be a sky customer in their eyes (with the broadband)

Don't want to got through the hassle of changing broadband as Sky has been steady 8mb no problems..

    Cheers

Maybe I'm being a little bit cynical here, but I think Sky are still ripping customers off.
We have Sports & Movies, but plan on cancelling movies in the near future as we don't really watch anything on there.

We had ordered HD as when my husband first spoke to Sky about it the sales rep said that we could take HD and then cancel the movie package, keeping just the HD movies and saving money. Then the day before the installation we got a letter outlining the costs and there was a mistake, we were getting charged for Sky+ installation which we have had for 2 years. My OH phoned Sky to sort it out and while he was there he asked to cancel the Sky movies package after the HD install. He was then told if he cancelled the Sky movies package we wouldn't get the HD movies either, the opposite of what he was told a few weeks before! So he then just cancelled the whole thing. Next day the engineer, a contractor phoned and said when he would arrive, my OH said he had cancelled already. The engineer said why would he want to cancel? It was just a 'straight box swap' and would take only a few minutes, my husband told him that we had been misinformed on what we could have, appologised and said he still didn't want it installed.
But still, it begs the question, if it's a simple 'box swap' why were they charging us £30 for installation?

You cannot cancel your sky which is in your name then sign up again in your name as a new customer, you need to sign up again in a different name.

If you have a partner you live with then get them to sign up as a new customer, and just cancel yours, you partner will be given top priority,
my wife cancelled her sky on the 14th Feb, i ordered sky from sky salesman at my local shopping mall in my name as a new customer on the 14th Feb and had sky HD installed on the 20th Feb,
the sky salesman i spoke with told us to do this,

he did ask me if we already had sky broadband, he said that if we had sky broadband this will complicate things, i dont have sky broadband so this wont affect myself, im not sure what the complications are but its best to check, it may be a case of that you cancel you sky tv and broadband, then get your partner to sign up in a new name, if you dont have a partner then ask a good friend or even family as they may be able to do this in their name

My My you have had some bad service from sky!
sky did explain to me that the HD channels you recieve depends on what basic sky package you have, we have sky world which is everything, movies, sports etc, this would mean that we also get movies and sports on the HD channels if we pay the extra £10 a month for HD subscription, if your basic sky subscription doesn't have movies or sports included then you wont get them in HD either even if you pay the £10 HD subsciption, you would only get some of the HD channels again depending on your sky package, note that bbc HD and channel 4 HD are free anyway

i was also concerned over excisting customers paying £30 for the install when all they do is swap over boxes (if you already had a sky+ box) you might as well just get sky to deliver the box to your address and fit it yourself. It's not fair on the loyal excisting customers,

when my wife phoned up to cancel her sky, the sky bloke on phone did everything he could to keep us, he offered sky hd box for just £49 and no install fee, he offered to reduce our bill as we our loyal customers who have never missed payments etc, because i had already signed up in my name i had to say no, also with excisting customers there is a big waiting list for HD boxes and i wanted mine asap and im not a patient person,

i wasn't prepared to pay £30 install fee, this is why i got my wife to cancel sky and i signed up as a new customer and only paid £49 for sky+ HD and also got a free sky standard digi box as i took multiroom

my dad went for this offer - confirmed it twice on the phone, yes, that's the correct price...

but when it came to it, Sky denied all knowlege and wanted to charge the normal prices, so my dad cancelled.

Just had the HD box installed and our Sky Plus moved upstairs to replace the Standard Box we had up there

As we only have one HDMI input on the TV and our DVD player and Sky both need to connect via a HDMI route we need a HDMI Selector/Splitter

oes anyone know where to get cheap HDMI Selectors/Splitters, cheapest one I have seen is at Argos and is £12.97

    Thanks
  • I love this board.

I called sky and lied my !!! off. Told them I was moving to shift-work and thus couldn't be bothered to pay for sky, and when asked that yes, I'd considered sky+ but that their salesperson at their stand in the shopping centre had said it was 150 quid and that as just too much.

Then he told me 'well, maybe I can help you out.'

I made the specific point that 150 quid to be able to continue what I'm doing now was ridiculous. I also stressed how bummed out I was because I was a longtime Sky customer and had been one through 4 different houses that I'd lived in for the last 8 years, and he offered me the Sky+ box for 49 pounds, which I said was still to expensive and he then dropped it to 15 quid and no installation fee.

Brilliant! And I couldn't have done it without you people. :D
Proud to have dealt with my debts!

which offer do you mean ?

it clearly states £49 for hd box free install for new customers, £30 install for excisting customers

try the link below as amazon also have some, its just a case of keep searching on the net, loads of places would do these i expect, a good shop to try if you have on in your local area is Maplin electronics

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/qid=1236167892/ref=sr_st?keywords=hdmi+box+&rs=560798&page=1&rh=n%3A560798%2Ck%3Ahdmi+box+&sort=price

im sure currys/comet do these but at a bigger price, try going to your local tesco or asda supermarkets, im pretty sure i have seen hdmi splitters in their before, branded ones , like philips for example,
or update your TV, most hd tv's these days have at least 2 hdmi's, older models only have the one, my tv has 4 hdmi slots, lol

you may want to try e-bay but as we know e-bay can be a pain in the backside
