Ok heres the score, i am a sky customer, our contract ran out about 8 months ago.

Back in june 2007 we decided to upgrade our old sky box to a sky+ box and we also took multiroom by putting my old sky box into our bedroom, because we took multiroom we got free installation.

My Contract with sky ended in June 2008 but still continue to pay them for their services, we have the full sky world package, movies, sports etc...

As things stand i have 1 sky+ box in living room and 1 standard sky box in bedroom.

I would like to upgrade to sky+ hd and replace or simply move the sky+ box to the bedroom and ditch old box, i think its unfair that we have to pay £30 installation this time round as we already have multiroom.

I was speaking with a sky salesman in my local shopping mall, i asked him is there a loop hole where you just cancel your multiroom subscription then take out the sky HD box offer then take multiroom again, he said if i paid £49 today he will do this for me and thats the only way round it, the only reason i didn't do it there and then is i didn't have £49 spare, i will have £49 this saturday and if he is there again i will take it up, he also said the order will go through much quicker than if you phoned up or done it online.

Now saying the above cant happen my question is.....

If i just phoned sky and decided to pay £49 for hd box then £30 for installation, do i have to pay the £49 for the box upfront? do i also have to pay the £30 install fee upfront? or do i have to wait for the install be be done first before i pay the £30.

I want the sky+ HD box in living room to go with my nice 40" HD TV, then thinking about having my sky+ box in bedroom then ditching my old sky box,

Can someone please help me with options, the sky website only answers some of my questions

I believe that you would have to pay both the £49 for the box and the £30 for the install at time of ordering (at least we did when we upgraded to aSky+ box 12 months ago). SO - £79 upfront in total.

    Hope that helps.

  • thanks stuartmck, just spoke to sky who told me i would have to pay all money upfront, he said to register first then sky contact us, pay the money once you have it, he said it may take a little time depending on local sky stockists, so i may just register online tonight to get my foot in the door so to speak, im not sure weather to hold on to saturday and speak with the sky salesman in local shopping mall to possibly save £30 install or register tonight just incase they stop doing the offer, what should i do ??

I have been reading a few posts and reviews on the internet and alot of the existing sky customers are cancelling there current contract saying they have moved then getting the other half to phone sky as a new customer so they getting the install for free and the HD box for £49 aswell as the multi room!

Now can somone help me? Am I able to get this HD package, cancel the HD within the 8 days and ask to swap my HD box for a standard one as this is the same price?
  • problem is devils_vixon when i cancel we have to wait 30 days dont we ? plus i think sky would catch on if i tried that as i am worried and sky will know we have the same name etc
  • Hi,

I have just cancelled my sky (we were out of the 12 month contract) and the next day we ordered in online (through quidco) in my husbands name (we have the same surname) and it has gone through fine. I chose installation for beginning of march. This is 2 days after my notice period ends.

All we have had to pay is £49 the installation is free to new customers.

    I hope this helps.
  • vannessaq when you cancelled did you have to wait 30 days for that to kick in ? is it best to cancel first ? then order in my name as a new customer ?
  • martytarty

I cancelled on saturday evening then ordered online on monday after reading other postings that have done this on numerous occasions over the years. When I rang up Sky to cancel they offered me the hd sky+ for £49 and no installation charge, but I wouldnt of got the £100 cashback from quidco.

It doesnt matter if you have the same name as long as it isnt in both your names. We have always taken out sky in one name so therefore only one of us is the customer.

Subsequently I have read a pos where they do this every 13 months with success.

    I hope this helps :j

  • i like the idea of cancelling current sky then setting up as a new customer in my name, my concern is i used to be a sky customer from about september 2003 through till june 2005.

without going into a long story i owed them some money and my sky got cancelled automaticly.

I had moved away to a completly different area/address (not to avoid anything i just moved away to be with my girlfriend now wife, i had alot going on in my life at the time and sky was least of my worries) i ended up getting a letter from a debt company to simply pay the outstanding amount for the sky, i think it was only 1 months subscription owed, anyway i paid up and that was that, that was nearly 4 yrs ago.

My concern is because of this im not sure sky will take me back?

Does anyone think sky will take me back as a customer ?
