Morning all.
What a start to the week. I was woken at 6am by DD almost choking as she was coughing so much! Poor thing has a stinking cold and an awful cough so it will be lavender oil in a pot of water on top of her heater tonight to try and help her sleep better. I'm not going to keep her off school this week unless she starts vomiting again as she breaks up on Friday and is supposed to be going to MIL's for a couple of days! She can watch "Yellow Submarine" tonight, have a bowl of hot veg soup and then go to bed
So far almost everything has gone to plan. I was actually downstairs by 7.30 this morningSchool run done on only a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon in it, followed by 1 batch of dishes, 1 load of washing done and hung up in the bedrooms to dry and I've even done my 10 minute "Abdominal Burn" workout this morning for the first time in about 18+ months :j THen I've sat down here to have breakfast (cup of hot cordial and 2 slices of brown bread with minimal spread). Another load of washing is almost finished so I'll take that up to dry soon. Then back on the net to sort out credit card payments, update Money etc then I'll start the cleaning. But at least I managed to finish the ironing last night
OH listed some stuff on ebay which ended yesterday - the jammy thing has raised £112 just on the sale of the items  and they didn't all sell either! Sooo that means I need to dig out my packaging stuff so the stuff can be dispatched. Unfortuantely its buried in the understairs cupboard :eek::eek: I may be some time. :eek:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Morning all.
i've got workmen here putting on new fascias, so i was up very early for me - 7:15am, when DH got up. I've been quite productive, WM is on its second load.
My wireless network at home has gone down again, so i'm on the PC upstairs at the moment but won't be for long as i daren't leave the kittens. They keep digging up my pot plants and leaving trails of soil across the window sills.
I'm still car-less as well, so i won't be going very far.
i've sat and wrote a list of all the jobs that i need to try and get done this week. I've got a few phonecalls to make, so i might try and tackle some of them today. I have a bit of a weird phobia about using phones. I don't know why, as being a teacher, i should be more than used to dealing with people.
I'm also still boxing up the living/dining room, a bit at a time. It is a slow process. I wish i would hurry up and get better and have my usual level of energy for doing things. I know i should be grateful that i can still do more than some.
I'd best go and get on again. 1700 steps so far, so i should easily beat what i did yesterday. A bit of walking around while on the phone i think.

thriftmonster wrote:Hi everyone,
Thriftlady - it's definitely worth getting the nut allergy checked out. Myds1 had one that was identified at 18 months but the doctor said we'd identified it early enough and that if he stayed off nuts till he was 5 he should outgrow it - and he did. He's 10 now and he still avoids most peanuts but is OK if he does eat them accidentally and he's fine with cashews, walnuts etc in cooking.
Thriftmonster are you sure we're not related??
Thanks for that it's really encouraging. My dd reacted to peanut butter when she was about 18 months too(she's also allergic to eggs but that's not so dangerous and we don't need an epipen for it).
I have taken dd to the dr's this morning and the dr said 'no problem I'll refer her'.They can test for different nuts and severity of the allergy. They do blood tests so she won't have to be directly exposed to the allergens.
So really pleased about that, just have to wait for the appointment.0 -
I am feeling so depressed we have this morning, just had a notification from Severn Trent that our direct debit is to increased on 1st March from £14,51 to £22.61 an increase of over 50%. We used to pay over 10 months, but they seem to be increasing it to 12. We are on a water meter and are very frugal with what we use.
We have not had a statement from them showing our usage since last October, there was nothing but the DD info!!!!!
I really do not know what we can do to use less water, I do not have a dish washer, we use the washing machine only with full loads, we only flush the toilet, which is s dual flush, when the contents are brown, garden watering is done from barrels which take the rain water from the garage, the rain water from the house goes straight into the ground and as we rent the house we cannot divert that......the pension increase we may get in April will not cover this nor the expected increase in council tax, gas and electricity payments which we are warned are coming....just at this moment life stinks!!!!!

Awww Tootles --- give them a call and ask them for a break down of your usage, tell them that you're not happy to put the DD up until you've seen proof of what you've been using. I'd also ask them to send someone round to give you some help and tips on anything else you could do.
I think there will be a lot of people tightening belts in the coming year. I heard on tv last week somewhere that the national average debt per household is approx. £8k......with all the price rises for utilities that's going to hit some people hard.
I've turned the heating off it's normaly daily programme today, I've only got my DD's here, no little one's today so I can make them put an extra jumper on. They're currently snuggled under a duvet watching a dvd and I've been rushing around. I'm off to do a bit of baking which will warm the kitchen up enough to sit in for lunch and then back under a duvet for a film this afternoon....I love half term!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Hi everyone:)
having a VERY os start to the half term. Chicken biryani was in the sc by 8am with the help of ds1! (sorry acronym crazy....)
had porridge made with water - my fave, and turkish coffee - I spend less on coffee bcos I have fresh knock your block off stuff so i actually enjoy it more and drink less.
Had a clearout of the kids art materials and they did arty stuff this morning and I made a valentine's card with things I found in there.
Did washing with laundry gloop - still getting the stains out.
Let the hens out - they are moulting at the moment so no eggs
Bread machine cleaned and ready for making naan bread for tea.
Lunch HM cheese and sundried tomato bread with tinned sardines, and jelly for afters. Reminds me of half terms as a kid when nearly all my meals must have come from a tin. Big soup where are you now...
Got to stay in till 2 as someones coming to film me as part of an educational video about career choices.
Have a whistle in my pocket after watching 'honey we're killing the kids' last night - a sharp toot on that if the kids get out of hand! My children when they are 40 will look like Jerry hall, Johnny Wilkinson and Chris packham of course! LOL Kids excited as i had a clearout of the sweetie box and they had a few out of date sweets.
Pleased with the post as my mobile bill is £10 less - they gave me an upgrade and more mins for less dosh:)
Not pleased with the erroneous tax credits letter (theres a surprise!)
Sticking a few odds and ends on ebay when i get a moment - made enough money this month from my self-employment but still waiting for an invoice to be paid£300

Curry_Queen wrote:I hope she's been saving up her pocket money then as the vivarium alone with all the equipment she will need - UV lights (need changing every 6mths), heat sources, thermostat etc will set her back around £200-£300
Then she will also need separate tanks to house the locusts and crickets that they eat, which need feeding properly and caring for before becoming dinner! (BTW they DO escape from time to time and keep you awake at night with their chirping so make sure you get an escape proof tank for them)
If she's really serious about having one then make sure she does her research well BEFORE even thinking about buying one (she would need to get the vivarium set up a week or so before introducing an animal to it anyway to get the temperature gradients right) and my advice would be to just buy her a book from the reptile shop for now. They should be able to recommend a good one for you but if you want more info and advice feel free to PM me hun
Your post reminded me of one of the mums at school, whose house is like a reptile house, they have snakes, gekkos (?), spiders and all sorts of other weird things! Needless to say I've never accepted her offer of coffee.
She did make me laugh though, because she too, explained that the crickets need as much looking after as the pets prior to them becoming dinner, and so she keeps them in her boiler cupboard in the kitchen. She said that when she comes down in the morning, her kitchen sounds like "Club Tropicana" :rotfl:

Just made OH very OS valentine's card after failing to find anything he'd like at Tesco(they've only got a few on display now, more fool them, there must be millions of blokes out there who've forgotten-OH one of them I expect)
Anyway what I did was this, put lots of lippy on(a novelty for me) and kissed a blank folded piece of card lots-kiss card!!
Off to blitz the leek and potato soup and fry up some cubes of bread from the freezer for croutons.
Supper will be cheese and lentil flan and broccoli+carrots.Might make a jelly for pud.0 -
Well upstairs is gleaming :j It only took me less than an hour to clean the bathroom (okay the toilet is still bleaching but still..
), hoover and dust both bedrooms, tidy up and sweep the stairs. I also put some lavender essential oil on the bulbs in the bed/bathrooms and some rose scented oil on the landing light bulb. OH said it's so much nicer coming home to a house that smells nice as opposed to one that doesn't smell of anything (unless I'm cooking) so I'm making the effort.
I've just had my dinner (left over Toad-in-the-hole from last night but I only ate the sausage) and I'm just about to have a hot drink while I try to juggle my money around. I also need to remember to get changed back out of my PJ's (I only put them on when I got back from school to do my exercises
) before going to pick DD up. I do not want to join the PJ brigade at the school. It only takes 2 minutes to get dressed so why can't they do that much of a morning?
I've decided that tea tonight will be veg soup - again as there is still about 1 or 2 portions left from last weeks batch :rotfl: I'll use the veg left over from yesterday, some cabbadge from when I made colcannon the other night and the end of the smartprice frozen mixed veg (I won't be buying that again as it tastes horrible!), might sling the gravy from yesterday in it as well to give a little umph :rotfl: IF they're still hungry I can heat up the left over custard from yesterday and serve it over a chocolate cake I made but forgot to put any rising agents inStill it's all very nice and a "use it up" meal
Kettles boiled..... :wave:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0
