Apple strudel is baking - yorkshire pudding batter is in fridge - potatoes have been par boiled in their skins and need peeling once they have cooled down.
Have a chicken and asparagus pie to bake with carrots, cabbage and asparagus. Asparagus was 59p instead of £1.99 at sainsburys as it was near sell by date.

Bruises all over my leg are turning yellow so this should be a good sign but still painful so trying to rest my leg as much as I can and pace myself.

You should report this guy as he has probably been doing this to other people and at least there will be a record of his behaviour of acting inappropriately to women.

Glad you had OH and brothers to call on.

Been to the chinese supermarket and had lots of fun, I bought a century pear as I liked the look of it and now have no idea what to do with it. I dont even know if I can eat it raw so ill have to cruise google and see what it turns up! I also got rice flour because I watched chings kitchen last week and she made a lovely dessert with it - but I forgot how to make it so Ill also have to search what to use it with! Got some excellent rice too, and some packets of various flavourings, coconut milk, pastry for making spring rolls, rice vinegar and sweet chili sauce. I then realised that I had no stuffing in for the chicken im about to roast and popped into tesco on my way home - and accidentally spent £20!! It was all fresh fruit and veg and milk etc, although I could have possibly got away with not buying vanilla extract at £4 and 3 apricots at almost £1.50. When will I learn!!

I made bread (well, the bm did while I was spending! :o ) and it is possibly the best loaf yet - amazingly soft and added my fresh grown herbs too so there is a lovely smell and flavour! :j Im feeling pleased - I think it was down to a bit too much sugar and lots of butter!

Before I get on with the days baking etc - can I freeze fresh raspberries? They were reduced (yellow label goodies!) but perfect looking and wondered if I could save a pack - as I only need one of the three I bought for my muffins!

  • Snowy Owl you've reminded me of two things;

    1. I've got a pedometer languishing in the depths of the kitchen junk drawer.must get it out and get my 10 000 steps in too.Just been for awalk with ds1 and dd.Ds1 said he needed some fresh air and exercise as he'd been sitting around watching telly all morning and playing computer games.Bless him(he's 10).

    2. I studied The Dubliners for A level(or was it O level?-long time ago now)I really enjoyed it,much more accessible than Ulysses or Finnegan's Wake I can tell you!

I'm off to start my beef stew.Expect OH and ds2 will be back from shopping trip in Brum soon.
  • hello again - still chilling out

Johanne - glad you are feeling a bit more secure. Don't go back to being scared to go out and about, just make sure you are always aware. Sounds like your boyf would be able to scare off anyone unless they were incredibly stupid.

Jo - freezing raspberries - easy to do, put them on a tray or other surface so they are not touching when they freeze. Then transfer them to another container as you would normally use in the freezer - otherwise they go a bit mushy - hope that helps.

I had a bit of a giggle about the pedometer - i have worn one most days for the past 6-7 years. ?I hardly ever get to the 10,000 recommended steps and i would consider myself fairly active when i'm at work and out and about. Since i've been off work sick, i've been managing about 2000 a day. Perhaps as well as saying what we are eating we should say what our previous days step total was - i know it would shame me into trying a bit harder. Anyone else up for it????? I bet those who walk kids to school are the ones who'd actually hit this target.

    Michelle ;)
  • You're right about walking to school cha97micelle.When I did actually wear my pedometer I found that I got to 10 000 easily on a school day.The problem I have with it is that it rubs my skin.I like to wear tops over my trousers and unless I've got a vest on it is very irritating.Still,it's vest weather at the mo so no excuses ;)
  • i know what you mean about it rubbing (although for me, usually because i've put on a bit of weight and not upgraded the trousers in the hope it will make me lose weight,)

I sometimes wear it on the pocket of my trousers, or if i have a belt, clip it to the belt. If it's too uncomfortable though, i don't bother wearing it at all.

I tried that but I found it doesn't work unless it's actually on the waistband of my trousers.I suppose i could put a hankie or something behind it.
  • can you make a sort of plaster ie. tape and a bit of cotton wool, perhaps - i was just thinking the hanky might be a bit bulky - although you'd have to try it.

I wear a belt now more often than not, even if it's not to hold my trousers up

Hey great minds think alike! I've just got back from a longish walk - took about an hour - and during it thought that I'd like to put my steps total into the diary thread too. So, if others are up for it, then yes, defo count me in. I'm aware though that there are those who read this and don't have the mobility to do these steps. It'd be great to hear those peoples' thoughts on this. As long as putting the steps total on doesn't upset anyone, then I think it's a fab idea.

BTW my almost an hour walk came in at around 8000 steps. Add on the mere 500 I did between waking and setting off, and the number I'm likely to do between now and beddie byes it looks like I am going to miss the ideal 10k. No wonder I put on weight so easily, I quite obviously don't move myself enough. This little pedometer is definitely going to help me get motivated.

Maybe I should walk to work tomorrow - it's three miles - then walk home just in time to get into the car to go to college. What do people think? Maybe better to walk when it's a non-college night??
