  • best wishes to all of those feeling down today.

not had too bad of a week ( i realised all my days seemed to be the same so i thought i'd just post once or twice a week - hope no one minds :) )

after monday at college i got to work on Tuesday to find out the the MD was taking all of finace (about 15 of us) for a curry buffet lunch. We went to Aagrahs - they have a few restaurants in the north - very nice it was too. he then further surprised us by giving everyone £35 M&S vouchers :) I have never bought anything from M&S so i think a shopping trip is in order soon.

Rest of my week was very much same as normal - running / work/ study. I had yesterday off work and went bowling then pub for a friends birthday. was out with all the folks i used to work with in my last job so it was good to catch with everyone.
As a consequence this morning didn't really happen - and i'm not up to much later either.

    B/L - cornflakes
D - home made lasagne & oven chips

I have nearly eaten everything from my first batch of SC cooking - steak&kidney, sausage casserole, chicken (not in the same pot ! ) so i think some time next week it will be time to restock the freezer.

    Have a nice day

    Cheers

I am off to Morrisons in a min i am planning to do a months worth of shopping so i only have to top that up with milk, veggies and fruit.

DS and DH made me laugh so much this morning they did a pant dance for me. They were both in there pants and socks and dancing around the living room. I cannot remember the last time i laughed so much it felt really nice. Bear in mind DS is only 3 and how sweet it looked.

Darn - there goes my organised Saturday. Got rid of kids and Mr TM - couple of hours in an empty house - then a friend I haven't seen in ages turns up for a cuppa. Great to see her and have a natter - but as I've only just had my lunch and not touched any jobs - I'm about 2 hours behind schedule.

Oh well, best get started......but my liver 'n' onions are smelling great :D

math - sorry your feeling down aswell. know how you are feeling we have money worries at the mo. thankfully my oh is totally aware and equally as committed to sort it out. hope you get the support from mrs math soon.

we went to the car boot sale to change two rings we had got the boys but the stall wasn't there this week. oldest ss thinks money burns a hole in his pocket (even if it is virtual) was trying to buy anything and everything even though he was told before no pocket money till end of the month.

we are dogsitting my mil chihuahuas and we took them for a walk. it was quite funny when a rotweiller was eyeing them for lunch, one of the chihuahuas loves barking at big dogs and we managed to steer them past without incident.

got loads of diy jobs to do today.

we just had homemade french bread pizzas for lunch.

((((((((((((((((((((MATH)))))))))))))))) I know how you feel, there was a time when I really wondered if we would ever repay what we owed, admittedly we did not have a mortgage but did have other debts incurred when we went through a spend, spend spend phase, thank fully we are coming out the other side now and should be debt free inside 3 years.

    Hello everyone

    (((hugs))) where needed

Sorry to hear about your difficulties, MATH. Perhaps because you're always the one who makes me laugh I had forgotten that things were not 100% money-wise for you.

Quiet day here, I have been into town, to the butchers & the market as well as tesco. I now have £1.80 left for the week, so am hoping I don't need to buy anything else!
DS is home from his Saturday job, complaining that he has cold feet. (he couldn't be bothered to go upstairs & get some clean socks!) He claims not to have enough in the way of socks, but I pointed out to him that he could actually go and buy some! We give him a clothing allowance of £10 a month (he is 15, by the way) so he should be able to buy a few pairs of socks for himself!
  • As for the pocket-money/stickers thing, did you ever see that debt programme a couple of years ago (can't remember what it was called) but it had Colleen Nolan and family and it went through their budget. She used to buy her younger boy (11yo) a pack of cards every day - and she was broke!! The 'guru' said - give the boys a set amount each month and tell them what they are responsible for buying - as they get older they have to buy more more themselves etc. 11yo was given about £200 (based on what mum usually spent on them) and told what he had to buy (friends b'day pressies and cards, own treats, days out, fast food etc) He could buy what he wanted and when but was told when the money ran out - he DID NOT get any more. Suddenly, these cards looked really expensive and he never bought another pack :D Also at end of month - he'd only spent 1/2 of his money :rotfl: It's a very simplified verson - but was a fab program. Maybe that's what you could try - or a version of it.

TM - the expert was an American called Mary Hunt who has written many books on debt and avoidance of debt including one on how to debt proof your kids. She isn't quite as 'holyer than thou' as the Tightwad Gazette woman who I can neither spell nor pronounce her name.

When my 2 were little we used to give them pocket money and extra for jobs around the house (we used to have 10 pence jobs and 20 pence jobs) when they got to 12 they were told that they would be given an allowance (like in the prog) and it was agreed what they had to buy with it, I think that I even wrote it down in case they forgot.

This list included all their clothes etc, it was paid monthly and they had a homemade 'bank book' to log it all down so they could see what they had spent their money on. It was amazing that the Kickers that my son wanted were soon scaled down to some bog standard Clarkes school shoes! they quickly learned to prioretise their wants and needs and it's stood them in good stead for later....I'd recommend it for everyone

Just as an aside, before we got the allowance idea my son was hankering after an increase in pocket money so I asked him to write down 10 reasons why he needed/deserved an increase, his sister did the same and hubs and I hooted with laughter at their reasons, I have kept them somewhere safe for future embarassment.
We told them that they could have £1 per month for every year of their age and my dearest 11 year old son said 'great, that means when I'm 40 you'll be giving me £40 a month!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
