  • PP - do you have a meat thermometer? If not, I'd recommend getting one as they are invaluable and only cost a couple of pounds. Anyway - I would think it will only need another 2-3 hours. I think my xmas one, which was about that size (can't remember really :o) only took 6 hours or so. The first one I did was a whopping 5kg - was too big even for the 6.5L MR, but did it overnight (10 hrs) on low. It was lovely but far too overdone, in that you couldn't slice it, it had to be served in chunks :D

SOMO1 - thatnks for the reminder. I bought a couple of slices of lovely dry cured bacon, intending to have bacon sarnies for brekkie - but forgot. I know what I'll be having for lunch then :T

moggins - you really won't regret getting a new mattress, but go for the best one you can afford. I speak as someone with back problems. Just tell your oh that it is a necessity and a priority.

    Good morning,

Not a happy bunny today, after having to get up really early yesterday (and it was so cold at DSs football!!!) i really thought i was ready for bed last night, however at 4am i was still wide awake and getting myself in a right old state!!!! At some stage i did fall asleep, only to have DD wake me up when she got in (not sure of the time, to tierd to look at the clock!!!) By 8, both children had gone downstairs, and then they woke me up at 9 so since then ive been wondering around in a bit of a daze!!!!
I have emptied the DW, put on, and hung up one load from the WM, and roasted the pork joint ready for lunch. The potatos are on so just the veg left (we have aunt bessie yorkies today, normally make my own, but a friend gave me some, so would be rude not to use them!!!!). Mind you, i am still wondering around in my Pjs, so should really pop up for a shower, although we have nothing to go out for, so it wont hurt if i dont hurry!!!!
Only thing planned to do today now is put the BM on, and maybe do some cooking with DD (we like doing this on sunday afternoons now, never anything on the telly and nice to spend time together!!!) apart from that, im relaxing, and hopefully will be able to sleep tonight!!!!
    Take care everyone xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Morning

Feeling a touch better today although I still feel like a cold is working its way through trying to take hold. I did pretty much nothing last night as I wanted to relax, had a bath, felt like I would have had a panic attack in bed last night so opted for crashing on the sofa, and I actually had a great nights sleep.

Ive decided that im also going to be buying a new mattress soon for the bed, and hopefully a new bed too. Boyf will complain loudly but the one we have at the moment - I just dont like it. It'll do for the time being but I really want a decent one so Ill start saving, complain about it enough that by the time I can afford it, he will want a new bed just to shut me up.

Plans for the day are to relax, i put lamb in the slowcooker last night and need to turn it into soup of some description, make some breakfast muffins (im thinking mango and vanilla - interesting combination!) and make an apple crumble to take over to a friends this evening as she is cooking dinner for us and I offered an egg free dessert (her fella is allergic to eggs). So it will be a day of cooking and relaxing = as per usual. Im not going to clean though, im going to get boyf to do than next week as i dont want to tire myself out and help that impending cold to take hold.

So - I need to meal plan for the week, and then go shopping!

    Have a nice day all!

I think I have found the cause of all my back problems! I fell asleep on the sofa last night as DH was at work, I finally woke up at 4am and decided to toddle off to bed but couldn't really get back to sleep again. Finally got up around 8 and my back and hips feel so much better, my hip is never going to be great after falling down the cellar steps but I can move and the top of my spine is not burning this morning. DH made noises about getting a new mattress but I know he will object to paying out a huge amount so I think I will use my Tesco vouchers to get one from MFI :D

    Hi Moggins
Have you thought about getting one of the memory foam mattress toppers? We needed a new mattress but after reading a thread on here about these I decided to get one. I paid just under £100 for one 2" thick & it's great. It felt a bit odd the first night but we soon got used to it. I don't suffer in the same way as you but because I spend my working day sat at a computer I do suffer from lower back pain. I get into bed feeling 'twingy' & wake up with no pain at all. It might be worth you researching this as a cheaper alternative.

I've decided to have a fairly lazy day today having been at work yesterday. I've done a load of ironing & there's a chicken in the SC - using CurryQueen's recipe - thanks CQ, it smells fabulous already. I need a few bits from the Co-Op so will pop up there in a bit.
This afternoon I'm going to experiment with a fat free, sugar free fruit cake. It's a recipe from a magazine that I've adapted a bit so fingers crossed it'll taste nice & be healthy too.
I have a conference with work on Tuesday so tomorrow night I'm being put up in a nice hotel with dinner & wine paid for by the company. It's a hard life!
    Have a great Sunday everyone.

    Morning all,

Still suffering, caught sight of myself in the mirror and got a shock........ talk about pasty faced it isn't in it!!!!!! We did not wake up until 9.20am, I woke earlier and made myself a cup of tea, but fell asleep again, OH brought me breakfast in bed, glass of cranberry juice, a round of toast and a cup of tea, am just not eating much at all, not really that hungry..........

I am convinced that I never really got rid of the virus I caught before Christmas and its rearing its head again..... I do a little job and I am shattered........ peeled a spud and a carrot for OH's supper last night, had to sit down to do it....... OH cooked the supper, he had sausage and liver casserole, a portion left in the freezer, I had macoroni cheese, also a left over portion from the freezer. Supper tonight is going to be interesting, OH is going to cook it..........

I will be phoning the Docs tomorrow,I would make an appointment to go in but honestly cannot face having to sit in the surgery for over an hour again, they will not do a house visit unless you are dying in this part of the world. I did wonder about writing a note for OH to take in for me......

  • Good Morning,
I haven't read the posts yet so hope all is okay with you.

It was all very pretty and snowy here yesterday but today it is just plain cold with a freezing wind. I find it expensive this weather, nearly used all our wood and the oil is going faster than usual because I have the stove turned higher and needing to put the heating on for a bit every couple of days. Fed up with it, I want Spring!

WM just finished its first batch (of many) and will have to resort to the TD for some of it. Dough nearly finished in BM for some sweet buns for tea. Yorkshire puddings baked whilst stove is still hot and chicken roasting currently. Would love to stick around here and read for a bit but must be off to get the potatoes and veg done. DH and DS off playing rugby so they will be starving and cold on their return.

    Have a good day!
  • Thanks for the replies.

I have a confession to make.........

I have used the TD for 30mins as I needed to wash the bedding with DD being ill and didnt have much room to dry anywhere so cheated......sorry!!! Feel really guilty, but havent used it for a couple of months now.

Have checked on the gammon and still quite firm, so will leave a little while longer. Thanks TM and Squeaky.

    Morning all

Haven't posted for a couple of weeks as I was in a show the week before last and was out every night - only spending 1hour in total awake in your house each day doesn't really help you be OS, buying lunches and dinner on campus all the time but at least we ate well etc.

Back in the swing of things now though more or less, have done really well keeping up with the washing, and did a good hoovering and tidying session yesterday.

Were going to have a trip out today but OH isn't in the mood so I'm going to get on with some sorting - being really really ruthless with things - feel I have way too many things which I never/hardly ever use. Have sold 1 thing on ebay this week (my 2nd ever sale) and have another couple ending tonight. May list a few more bits tonight for next Sunday - think I'm getting the ebay bug ;)

My aim is to go and clear the windowsill in the spare room now - my mum's coming to stay in about 5 weeks and the bed is covered in curver style boxes of stuff (including car boot sale 'stock' and books on amazon) so need to get sortin otherwise she won't have anywhere to sleep.

Might pop out to Tescos later for an outing as we need some more pancake bits as having some friends over hopefully on pancake day (obviously only fresh lemons which we already have and batter made from stratch - no mixes here)

Dinner is lamb which will go in the slow cooker in a little while - have had this a couple of times now and it's so nice - with roast potatoes and veggies - may try and make a pudding will see how this afternoon goes.

Right must get on with things - have a good sunday all

    Hello everyone

I can't believe how late it is, I have been such a lazy old lazy bones today, and have only been out of bed for an hour or so! OK I woke up twice during the night/morning, but I must have got my full eight hours even if they weren't continuous. I'll get in the shower in a moment, then toddle off somewhere for a nice walk.

Last night I got the baking bug and made muffins and a malt loaf. I got terribly confused doing the muffins - I was following a recipe but somehow I don't see bits - it's supposed to have chopped pear in, but I put in pureed apple. I completely forgot about the egg, then more confusion ensued when I was measuring out the baking powder and bicarb, and to top it all I baked them at the wrong temperature. The results however aren't too bad at all. If only I could remember what I did then I'd make these muffins again!

Moggins - please don't let your OH persuade you to get the 2nd or even 3rd best mattress for you. You need the absolute best mattress which is completely suitable for you. You'll be using it for probably ten years or more, it really is an investment in your health and well-being and will be worth paying for the best one for you.

FrugalFairy...it's probably too late now, but could you take two paracetamol before you leave the house? 30 kids is going to be rather...shall we say...a challenge on the old eardrums.

VickyA - congrats on losing 1lb, better off than on!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone, bye.
