  • Chickadee! you're a Guinea Pig owner! Whoop! :T I've got a little red and white boy called Chris Tingle. Well, I say "little", but in truth he's in training to become a Capybara. :rotfl:

Bargain Rzl - do you know, it would never have occurred to me to spend any "me" money ( :rotfl: at the very idea), on a ticket to an event. What a blindingly good idea!!! Its only taken me to get to 46yrs old before somebody else pointed that out.:D

Its been a quiet day, DS and I did some painting this afternoon with my new watercolour pencils. Got them as a gift last Mother's Day and haven't got around to doing anything with them up until now! I have started doing pencil drawings again and it would be good to be able to include a bit of colour every so often, so I wanted to play with the pencils a bit and work out the best techniques for incorporating them. I've done a lovely picture of a lake, a tree, some boulders and a socking great big pink caravan with orange flames for decoration. I think I got a bit silly, towards the end. :rotfl: DS did a lovely picture of a multicoloured house. Very colourful.

Following that, we had a game of Star Wars Top Trumps while DH braved the weather in search of onions, as he decimated the onion stocks when making the Lasagne. I am proud to report that - for once - I thrashed DS at the Top Trumps, so much so, he gave up in despair. :D That'll get him back for the match when I basically just handed him one card after another until they'd all gone. :D

My first attempt at a roast chicken done in the SC was for dinner, with mediterranean veg. We've just polished off the lot (about a cupful of chicken left!) and it was frippin' gorgeous. I put lemon and garlic in with the chicken and the veg (sweet potato, onion, courgette and yellow pepper) was roasted in a hot oven with olive oil sprinkled over it. Scrumpylicious!

For pud, I'd made an oaty shortcrust apple tart. It was an "off the top of my head" and "out of the storecupboard" job - and it was also scrumpylicious, so I'm sat here bathed in my own glory. :p I shall enjoy the experience right up until the moment that I have to become bathed in dishwater - well, as far as the elbows, anyway. ;)

I'm trying to avoid doing the dogs' dinners, as they've got the chicken giblets. I'm such a wuss. :D

Have a lovely evening all - and hope everybody gets a good night's sleep tonight.
:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:

Posh - I've dug out an old thread for you that I posted ages ago in response to a question from Eliza252 (whatever happened to her? And has anybody seen Ancasta lately?) Anyhow, here it is - lots of pointers on where to find affordable opera tickets. The specifics are out of date but the general gist of it is all still true :)

I remember that thread because I wanted to go to the opera. Never been before. Maybe this summer. I would like to see La Boheme at some point because I love the musical Rent which is based on the opera. See my signature. ;)

I like the idea of ME time. I've spent my weekend off studying. :(

PPaws, We have two girl guinea pigs, about 18 months old. One is black with a white stripe (Bounty) and the other is dappled ginger, white & black (Buttons). I know what you mean about them growing. Ours have grown at an alarming rate! Mind you, they are very well-fed. They love carrots and broccoli, lettuce and even apples and grapes. They like certain types of cabbage, but definitely not savoy and they will kill for dandelion leaves. Roll on summer!

    I've had a brilliant day.
After lunch, DH & I stood in the kitchen sorting out the lunchtime dishes & all we could hear was my sister, her DH, our DS, DD & her fiance in the conservatory, still sat around the table laughing & chatting. We looked at each other & grinned. It was one of those moments when you realise just how lucky you are & how fortunate we are to have such a wonderful family.
Sorry, I know it sounds a bit sentimental but, for me, it's those moments that make life worthwhile & I'll keep reliving it & enjoying it for weeks.
Everyone has gone home now & it's just me & DH enjoying a quiet evening in on our own (except for Harley) & looking forward to an early night.
A perfect end to a great weekend. I don't want to sound smug but sometimes I love my life! :j

    Evening all!

Ive had a fairly relaxed day in all, ive made some more hm quiches as I loved the ones I had last week (mini ones so more pastry than filling unfortunately!) so I bought some disposable (slap me please!) foil containers from morrisons - 11 for 99p and have just made two bigguns for lunches next week. I also bought a shoulder of lamb as I was going to make some lamb and veg soup - the lamb looks wierd as im only used to chops - im guessing ill need to roast or slow cook it first??

Ive also been at my processor again and mushed a whole punnet of plums and froze them for when I next go on a jam making mission - my apricot stuff looks awesome so I bought some puff pastry to make some apricot danish type breakfast things. Ive also done a freezer inventory and stuck it to the freezer, done the admin (boyf is going to be pleased soon hopefully - been looking at the bank charges threads and have totted up what he has been charged over 3 yrs - £670!!! It'll shock him and im fingers crossed we get them back - he is with Lloyds and they are awful so they deserve it). I on the other hand havent been charged a bean in over a year because im now a control freak with money so ill be teaching boyf a few tricks. Ive half cooked dinner which will be late one as boyf is at work and have to sort out his CV as he doesnt know how to do it at all - he's been really good this week so I figure ill throw him a bone and do it for him!

Right now im off to roll out my pastry - speaking of which - the shortcrust stuff for the quiches was excellent as I bought some of that trex stuff and let the processor do its job - last weeks wasnt as good by any stretch of the imagination - and my freezer now has three pastry lined cases ready for my next cooking jaunt. My freezer is rapidly becoming a storage area for random leftovers and strange bags of unknown contents as opposed to food. All fun though!

    See ya later!

    Jo xx
