If the operator chucked the stuff in the trolley that was out of order. Perhaps it just seem like that because of the speed. Perhaps if the OP's wife was not grasping what the assistant was telling her the operator could come across as rude. There is also the possibility that the assistant was plain rude.
There seems to be a generalisation that places like Lidi and Aldi employee rude people. There will be rude people at M&S, Tesco, Adsa etc. While it may be a normal reaction to bad service not really logical to dismiss Aldi based on one visit.
I think it has more do to with professionalism than respect. Respect needs to be earned, it is not automatic. An employee can be professional towards a numpty and not respect them. Customers do not have the right to treat employees like dirt (or visa versa).0 -
We have shopped in Aldi and Lidl many times and have never yet seen any till operator put items into the Trolley.
It gets piled up on the small shelf alongside the operator and we just shove it into the trolley and then sort it into bags on on the packing counter.
Suits us.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
I've shopped in Aldi before and am aware of the system. However one cashier was scanning the stuff so quickly and just putting them on the small shelf next to where the trolley gets parked for me to put into the trolley. She was going too fast for me to keep up with, so she would sigh and just shove stuff off the end into the trolley. Some things missed the trolley and bounced across the floor, so I got even further behind as I had to pick them up while she was still scanning/shoving.
It was a bit of a nightmare, and I did think she should match her scanning speed to the speed of the person putting the things back in the trolley. It put me off shopping at that particular cashier again, as she showed no care whatsoever for the goods I had bought. Here I go again on my own....0 -
that(sic) is the most arrogant thing ive(sic) ever heard you dont(sic) pay there(sic) wages no matter what you think and if rules are there (sic)there rules(sic)
Here follows a very simple lesson in our consumer society.
Customers (such as myself) buy goods from a shop. The shop makes a profit from the money the customers pay in. Part of this profit is used to pay the wages of the staff, thus,as I said
We INDIRECTLY pay their wages.
Please read my post before making silly comments. I said that in the Northampton I was told that they were company rules, whilst in the Milton Keynes shop, the manager told me they were not, for the type of purchase I was making.0 -
I do 99% of my shopping at my local Aldi and Lidl and have never had any problems with the scanning speed by the till operators, who are largely not English (probably Polish I think) but speak excellent English and are very pleasant. Because I am a regular customer many recognise me and either wave or say hello. A smile and a friendly greeting from either side costs nothing but can be very helpful. Over the years, these stores have saved me a fortune, so I am perfectly happy to maybe wait a little longer because there are only a couple of tills open, or pack my shopping bags after I have left the till.0

Oh get over yourself! Its a 'saying'.
Maybe you don't have a problem with them because you don't expect any level of respect or common decency? :money:( <-- imagine this sign...with use of a different finger)0 -

If it's a saying, then it's a saying used by semi-intelligent morons. I've always found that if I use respect and common decency, I get it back. Perhaps that's why I've not had bad service in those shops.
And as for the final comment and giving me the finger, I can only repeat your ridiculous phrase, "get over yourself". You're clearly a cretin.0 -

Hehe, the last time I heard the word 'cretin' was from one of my little brothers friends on the playground!
I was simply taking your attitude as the lead my friend, your automatic offence taken by my use of a simple saying, I found to be hilarious so i decided to follow your lead and see how much more you could possibly get wound up...seems like your a pretty wound up person.....you took such offence in a thread about bad service in a supermarket...makes me wonder....
Perhaps you are the said woman in the OP's thread that was throwing his lovely wife's shopping around!!!
