If the OP wasn't exaggerating when he said checkout operator was 'throwing' things into the trolley, I have to admit I'd be p1$$ed too, and would probably say something. To be throwing someone's shopping around is just plain rude, regardless of how cheap it is or how many customers are behind.0

First time shopping at Aldi Northampton.
Thought it was ok, few bargains like the 5kg of spuds at 49p.
However
My wife who speaks English as a secondary language was in distress at the checkout, I was taking care of my 2 year old boy when I noticed the checkout robot with the big mouth was literally throwing the groceries into the trolley. My wife was frantically trying to pack them into the bags.
First time I have lost my temper as I shouted at her to stop, she shouted back, saying the bags had to be packed away from the checkout. Proceeding to 'chuck' more groceries into the trolley, so I pushed them back further.
She shouted across the store for the Manager who relieved her and I had a go at him, was tempted to throw all the groceries back at him, as they were just about packed I threw the money at him saying we will not be back. Distressing scene witnessed by all.
Never in my life have I seen such contempt for a customer or lack of respect for goods in a shop. My wife was very upset. There was only 2 checkouts open. Not enough staff Aldi, employ more! All this could have being avoided with a pleasant fake smile and simple clear instruction from the checkout robot as experienced by the very nice checkout staff elsewhere who will also help you pack if your with children. Will never go back!
which part of "you have to pack away from the checkout" did you fail to comprehend? What did you think the long bench not far from the checkout was for - decoration?!
If you're too much of a snob to shop at Aldi for all of these past years and then complain about their polocies, perhaps you should stick to your beloved M&S readymeals or wherever you shop usually? If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0 -
Lets be honest, the staff their are very rude but it seems the nature in that store. You know what to expect as you walk into it.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -
When my wife got home clearly upset, she threw the spuds into a bowl of cold water scrubbed them half to death, slowly peeled their skins off throwing them into the trash. I could see a wry smile appear as she picked up a meat cleaver and chopped away at those shivering spuds into little pieces where they went straight into a wok of spitting hot oil.
Great crispy chips they turned out to be. Tomorrow my wife has promised the remaining spuds, they will be roasted alive in their skins.
Just like to say thanks to those that read my rant earlier, I was fresh back from the battle scene. Clearly we were at fault for not understanding the procedure, however it does not excuse the awful attitude from that particular member of staff. Manners and courtesy were replaced with aggression and attitude.
To those that that are prepared to accept that kind of service, someone disrespecting your family and goods. Good luck to you, you need all the luck in life. Carry on bending over that barrel.
Incidentally I ended up in Aldi due to one of the posts in this forum about a pick axe for about a tenner. So glad I did not buy it although I did think it was a good deal.
Good job it wasn't my wife the check out person spoke too like that....last one who was ""rude"" was dismissed shortly after.
Racism towards a customer tut tut....yep had the last laugh0 -
They cut down on all the frills to cut down on the prices , I find our Lidls to be the worse , mainly the other customers , why do they have to invade your space all the time at checkout?0

I can totally 100% understand where the OP is coming from, the only good thing about Aldi and Lidl is the prices, it doesn't make you a 'snob' if you are unhappy with the service!!!!! Anyone who disagrees that they have the most unhappy, sour faced, bitter employees is lying, I can quite believe that the checkout person was throwing things into the trolley and who here wouldn't be mighty !!!!!! if that was your shopping?!?!
I couldn't care less if I am meant to actually pack the bags away from the checkout, I am the customer, they will show some respect for me and my purchases. It has nothing to do with anyone 'thinking they are better' it has to do with some respect.0 -

Anyone who has had a different experience to you is lying ? What a frankly daft thing to say. I occasionally go into Lidl and Aldi in Leeds and Durham and don't have a single problem with the assistants there. Does that make me a liar ? No.0 -

I'm very tall, but I don't think I could sit in a checkout seat and put stuff into a trolley without throwing it?0 -
